Best vintage lens to get for my 550d?

I have as low a budget as you can imagine. At the moment I'm looking at some old Nikon lenses, I've also heard from some friends that Pentax K lenses are a bargain but are they any good? I'm not aware of Pentax's reputation. Are there any others worth really looking into? Obviously there are I just want to know which. I want a 50mm next but with a decent focus ring and manual aperture, which I'm assuming most vintage lenses have, it's just the worry of not being able to get a follow focus on there.

Pentax vintage lenses are fine. Back in the day, all the camera manufacturers produced decent lenses - some were fabulous, but none of the standard lenses were bad. I like Canon because I have a cupboard full of Canon FD lenses from my younger days. If I were buying r=fresh, I'd be happy with Nikon, Pentax, Minolta, Olympus

+1 on the Olympus Zuiko's. I have a 50mm f1.8 that is quite nice and as cheap as you can find for such sharp glass.

Cheers,
Pete
