Best SDHC card?

I use some generic ones from Microcenter here in Chicago as well as Extreme IIIs. I don't know why an SDHC card would ever crap out. That's like saying your USB card crapped out. The only major difference between cards should be the speed at which the data transfers as I understand it.

I also have like 5 of the MicroCenter Cards, and so far 1 usually stops recording towards half way full. I don't mind it much since i haven't lost any footage (just stops recording) and needless to say I don't use that card anymore,
A bigger problem from this Microcenter cards is the safety switch, 1 fell off of one card, and a few others a starting to split open. The quality of the card is not the greatest (cheap plastic)

Also started using Extreme III's recently and so far love them, no problems there.
And thanks to a "black friday" Calumet Photo typo i got 5 8GB class 6 for 1 cent each. also bought 5 4GB CF cards Extreme III's as well for $1.99... 30 bucks for all 10 cards with taxes (i had to pay regular price taxes, and Chicago has the highest taxes of the country) but is all good :cheesy: 10 cards for less of the price of one!

Klix is an incredible software. It will recover data from a reformated card in its sleep. Just as long as the card hasn't been overwritten. It pulled stuff from my cards that much more expensive recovery programs could not.

No luck with Klix on AVCHD, it recovered some thumbnails but that's all. I don't think it understand MTS files.

I might get Data Rescue 3, Klix seems to be the dumber, younger brother of Data Rescue.

This follows nicely from the recent thread about myself and a few other people losing clips from their Transcend cards. I've ordered a couple of Sandisk Extremes myself after considering the Panasonic Class 10 ones too. Have had no reports on the Pannies. The Scandisc don't seem to have a Class rating do they but I was influenced by a couple of very positive comments on that thread. Also at 30mb/s they will be operating well within their comfort zone so hopefully will be reliable.

Bazza, I just read your devastating thread, it happened to me on the weekend at a huge wedding using a Verbitam c6 32gig new card formatted in cam, what happened was my timecode read around 1 hour footage prior to getting to the reception, I did a bit of filming there about say 5 mins and when I looked at the timecode it read 4 mins of footage, what happened to the other 1hr, so I went to view files in pb and they were all coated with a blue exclamation mark telling me data control error, oh man I almost fainted I had like 200+ files from the brides and grooms houses ceremony photoshoot everthing since 8am until 6pm, some were viewable some wernt, so I swapped cards to a Kingston c6 16gig new card recorded about 5 files in PH 1080 then all of a sudden upon cam start up it tells me camera cannot read card it can only read HA 1080 please change your recording settings, on pb nothing was showing up like no files had been recorded....Weird ****.

Anyway after the sick feeling and stress this gave me for the rest of the evening couldnt sleep started transferring files and they are all there and all fine.

btw I ended up filming the rest of the wedding with my old dvx100 on tape just so I wouldnt miss speeches etc,

Any idea why the camera wont play back or why its reading like that.

Its a stress I anyone doesnt need, I mean I got rid of SD because the tape may stuff up.

Im thinkng maybe it takes longer to write files and I shouldnt turn camera off straight after file capture or something.

I've been rotating 4 Transcend 16 GB Class 6 cards for over a year with zero problems in my HMC 150. The cam has been flawless also.

i know it isn't any help to those experiencing problems, but i second Songdog that Transcend 16gb Class 6 cards have been 100% reliable and the lowest price to boot!

i'm still baffled as to how people run into these problems.
this is what i do with my cards:
1. buy the card
2. format the card in-camera
3. always power down before inserting/removing the card

maybe some people are trying to do things too quickly?
powering off before the camera finishes writing to the card?
removing the card while the camera is still writing to it?
putting the camera next to big magnets? :D

i know that there actually are bad cards out there, just like there are lots of crappy hard drives. the only solution i've found is to avoid certain manufacturers that tend to consistently use cheap parts.

here's the card you want:

Do you format for each use? or just when you first purchase the card?

I'm curious to see what most people think about delkin efilm. I am about to purchase a fistful of cards for my new HMC150's. I already have a few of the Efilm 32GB class 6 cards and was gonna go with them the rest of the way as well. So far the ones I have already seem to work fine.

Me, I am only using Panasonic cards. The last ones I bought was the class 10 cards. I know that I can trust them! Hopefully!

I've a couple of things. I've dragged and dropped to the Trash and Emptied the Trash, which is not recommended, and I've reformatted in the camera when I've wanted to clear the card. Either way, I've not had any problems with the Transcend 16 GB Class 6 cards. Quite possibly, it's just my luck as 4 cards are a very small sample size statistically speaking. YMMV.

My Trancend SDHC 16GB Class cards came from NewEgg and they have written on the packaging up to 17MB/s. I have been buying Trancend 8GB more recently and a few 16GBs some months back and still have the old packaging, none of it has the speeds only Class6. If I understand correctly this camera will run in PH mode on Class 6 no problem which can be around the 24MB/s...? Have these cards changed or is it just the packaging labeling...?

Got my answer from Trancend, the SDHC6 or class 6 cards will write to a max speed of 20MB/s...

This is very nice margin provided by Transcend, considering that Class 6 cards must deliver just 6 MB/s.

don't confuse MB/s as posted on memory cards with mbps as posted in our camera's specs.

24 mega bits per second is easily handled by a class 6 card capable of 6 mega bytes per second. 1 megabit = .125 megabytes or 8 bits = 1 byte.

I own 3, one however, went bad with the "check card" message.
