Best DSLR for filming

Thanks, Zack for showing me those information. And thanks to Barry for those comparisons.

I have used each camera, either by rental or job, and decided to go with the 5d. Te full-frame sensor
is what makes it so appealing.

The 5D is fine AS LONG AS YOU DON'T PAN or move too much. The best all around camera is the 7D. It is more solid. It has less problems on moving shots and its image is close to the 5D.

I'd agree with that. I LOVE my 7D...great video. Wish they had RAW for these cameras though, and headphone jack for monitoring. Would make them even better!

I love my 7D, but if i had more i might have gotten a 5D, some pros and cons of each.

Either way, best way to judge is to watch the great camera shootout of 2010 on zacuto.

The 5D/7D/1D pretty much compete for dominance, with the GH1 and D3s trailing behind.

A few of the tests the GH1 actually does do better, and in extreme low light the D3s shines, but for the vast majority of other stuff.

Ive been a nikon user since before i was born, and made several shorts and a documentary with my D90, but after nikon just refused to listen to the market i had to switch to canon and never looked back.

well - as it has been covered a plethera, I won't beat a dead horse, but it can easily be argued that the shootout was skewed- seems like a lot more time was put into the canon line in terms of discussion, color timing, chart tests, etc.

all in all- I think it depends on the user. These HDSLR's have something for everyone. They all have their idiosyncrasies, hurdles, and work-arounds, and ALL are very powerful tools.

I feel like everything Philip Bloom touches is magic. So this is the perfect example of the 'user' making use of his tools.

All of these cameras are fine as long as you don't pan. They all use CMOS chips so you're going to get the rolling shutter effect on all of them.

There is no best or better. That is the end of it. They all suck pretty much equally. What you get in one you lose in another. You pretty much just need to find out which one fits your budget and your game plan.

The only reason I ever moved away from the GH-1 was because of pulldown and no video out.

With the new firmware hack and the GH-1 Costing 400.00 overseas, you'd be hard pressed to try to sell me a T2i or a 7D. The only thing I'd consider outside of that is a 5D.

The GH-1 is the most versatile of them all, just now needs a video out hack or a GH-2 update that's all inclusive.

For 400.00 + Hacks that throw the image quality into a whole new playing field, Ability to PL mount without hacking into the camera, 720/60, 1080/24 PJPEG, 1080/30 PJPEG, and the most appealing overall aesthetic (to myself and a lot of others, including a lot of 7D owners I know) the GH-1 is definitely a major contender.

I no longer have 7Ds and 5Ds and am looking back into picking up one or two GH-1's + PL mounts for small jobs and odds+ends.

I think if the 7D gets Magic Lantern or a firmware upgrade I would give it the crown (at this time), but since the 5D has these I would have to vote for the 5D being the king of DSLR vid cams. 5D quality is excellent too

Pulldown is just silly to have to deal with at this point in time and no ability to monitor while shooting? And very few of us have PL lenses, I would think if we had that kind of money we would own Reds.

OMG, why am I inviting a war?

Because you feel like you need to justify what you like over the next person's. It's a natural habit around the forums.

I roll with the 7D because:

Full HDMI out with no delay
24P (bought before the firmware for 5D)
I enjoy shooting on the longer side of lenses, so crop sensor = further reaching lenses for less money

Like Kholi said, buy the camera that fits your personal needs/style.

400.00 overseas? They cost 1230 Euros in Europe, that's $1470. Far more than a T2i.

I picked up my GH1 a couple weeks ago for $1000 including the 14-140 kit lens, real US packaged camera, not gray market. Prior to that, I had searched long and hard (that's what she said) for a good deal on a T2i / lens combo that I liked. Every combination came up to at least $1300 or so. The GH1 kit lens gives you a great bang for buck. Okay, not everyone likes it, but so far I'm mighty impressed.
