Best DSLR for filming

Best DSLR for filming what?

For short or feature film. I'm just curious since I have never thought of actually using a DSLR for shooting a feature film. I've seen the short film of the City of Lakes in ExposureRoom and it seemed like they used a DSLR camera. I'm not sure if that's the only camera they used or what but the picture does look very nice.

5D has full frame, and image quality is most important to me so this is why i bought it over others, however other cameras can be better at different thing such as shooting different frame rates and shooting 720 which 5D cannot do, it all depends on what you are planning to shoot and what format to shoot in. For me though I shoot 1080/24p with a full frame sensor and that gives me the best image quality.

I'm not aiming for 720p. 1080/24p or more is better. Looks like the 5D Mark II is an amazing camera. However, it looks like you can only for half an hour. Is that correct?

It records only at 12 min. continuously which means once you hit record it will only record a 12 min clip but doesn't mean you can't stop recording and then hit record again. A formula I like to use to figure out how many minutes of recording time I have per CF card is: (3 x number of GB) give or take a few minutes depending on if your filming video and audio at the same time etc.

Okay, so for now it seems like Canon is better than Nikon for shooting video.

The D90 only has 720p which is restrictive enough, but you can't shoot hand-held with it or have much movement without the frame going jelly-like. The D3s is decent in low light but is otherwise fairly poor.

Overall, the 7D is probably the best all-round shooter. Smaller sensor than the 5Dmk2 but it has more video options.

Just do a bit of research.

IMO the 1ds is the best - larger chip than the 7 and half decent HDMI out for monitoring

But it is expensive and still has moire like other DSLRs so I wouldnt buy it

IMO the 7 is best for monitoring and $$$

The 5 is clunky to use and a b1tch to focus unless you have an experienced AC with $20k of FF kit

I have no agenda because I have both

Thanks for your opinion.

I have quite a few of Nikon lenses already and if I am can afford another DSLR, I like to keep it to Nikon so I don't have to buy the Canon lens. However, as many of you have said and some reviews I have seen, it seems like Canon are now better in recording HD movies.
