Best Compression for 50min DVD

Okay I so I have some resolve to my issue.

Final Cut> Export Using Compresor> Advanced Conversion>DV50 NTSC 29.97> Progressive 16:9>Frame Controls off. I have not tried on, but will over night, I will set everything to best.

No ghosting, details look decent.

How did that end up working out for you? I'm compressing a 2 hour HD 720p 60p show and it's saying it will take 74+ hours and it's already been going for a day and a half. I feel like it shouldn't be going this slowly, especially since I have a Mac Pro. Has anyone else experienced it taking this long to compress HD to SD?

Yea i sounds about right for the time. If you have any color correcting, filters, effects, etc.. Mine takes about 12 hours for 64mins. Without any real color correction. You can do 60 anyways to follow my resolution above. It really helps. Depends on what you are shooting.

If it is more interview style I just did a Quciktime export and then to Mpeg 2, and it was fast. took about 8 mins for an 20min interview. What were you filming?

I was filming a theater show and I didn't use any color correcting, filters, effects, etc. in compressor. You said yours took 12 hours for 64 minutes. Shouldn't mine take about 24 hours then instead of 90 some hours. I'm wondering if something is wrong with my compressor.

Post pics of your compressor settings - If you adjusted any of the Frame controls, If they are on, time goes longer.

I did adjust the frame controls but if I didn't do that it ended up having interlaced lines.

Is that how you set yours?

I Got to this thread a little late but wish i hadn't.

I have found the best way to get top quailty out of compressor is to take the compression steps yourself. By this i mean, using the advanced conversions as an intermediate. The advanced conversions actually use a process from Shake called retiming and give you exccelent picture quality when doing format conversions, something the old compressor sucked at. I usually export any HD project out the NTSC 29.97 using the advanced conversions and then bring it back into compressor and recompress for MPEG2 and AC3.

I wish you could set up compressor to do this in one foul swoop and there is a way using the frame controls, but i have not had any luck.

But by far the best quality i get is going from HD to uncompressed NTSC 29.97 and then to MPEG2.

Rig: There is actually no NTSC. 29.97. I NOW do at Advanced Conversion>DV50 NTSC 29.97. And that I think yeilds the best. I have not heard from anyone else saying otherwise.

As for audio, I run through Audio in compressor as Dolby 5.1 and get great sounds. It's not for some odd reason 5.1 but it still is really nice.
