GH4 Best Cage for the GH4 with locking device for it's HDMI connector.

Hi Brandon i apologize.... i should of been more clear in my first post its a full rig that i am after not just a cage.

Ah gotcha. If you're looking for a one-stop purchase for an entire rig, it looks like CAME might be a good option for you. If you want to get something that is akin to your needs, and have the time to look around, I'd part-out all of the parts and build your own rig. It's going to save you $$ in the long run and probably fit your needs a lot better than something that's pre-packaged.

Hi Ekin, my fingers just rest on it. I think it would be a better grip if the rod wasn't there, but it's part of the support and it's not a major interference.

Martin, can you see if it's possible to remove this rod? I take it the camera is secured at the hot shoe as well (please correct me if I'm wrong), and therefore I imagine it would be a solid enough construction even if that rod is removed. What is your thoughts?

Thank you for pointing out the details regarding the HDMI clamp, now I know not to get such an adapter if I go with the Skier cage.

Hi AlexNOR, you can definitely take off this side rod and the camera is still completely locked in place (top shoe and bottom). When I first got the Skier, I took it all apart and build it back up, so I know it works without this rod. Now I'm thinking I might set it up like this, that's not a bad idea to have more grip on the side.

Thank you for the quick reply, Martin! Great to know that the cage is still solid without that rod, definitely a huge plus.

I thought that was my only gripe with the Skier cage, that the full grip of the GH4 was lost. But now when I know that's not an issue I have some other concerns with what lenses you can actually fit as the cage is forward of the camera's mounting flange. Just curious if you've had any issues with larger lenses? I'll be going bonkers with one of the new Sigma 150-600 lenses and a Speed Booster for wild life in the spring, I wonder if that'll fit...

And in case anyone else wonder if the speed booster will fit, I saw Skier reply on their facebook page saying that you may attach a metabones speedbooster on your camera while using the Litecage for the GH4.

no Problem, so far I've mounted Lumix lenses and nikon primes with an adapter, and everything has fit fine. This week I'm getting a new lens in the mail, a Bower 16mm T2.2 Cine, so Once I get this I'll let you know if there's any trouble fitting the lens on. It's a 77mm thread diameter and looks like a larger lens, so this should be a good test.

I've looked at everything and for the money think this version of the CAME Cage might be the best bet,http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAME-TV-Pro...94654408&tpos=unknow&ttype=price&talgo=origal Is anyone using one and if so how do you like it.

I tried one. The lack of an HDMI clamp was a deal breaker for me. The "open" design has it's pro's and cons. I liked how accessible everything was, but it also left a good bit of the camera exposed to damage. If you major concern is mounting points, not protection, I think it's a good option.

edit: I just saw that there actually is an HDMI clamp available. Doh! Wish I would have known that.

Thanks for your comments Joe, I like the fact that it comes with, a handle, cage, and rod support system. just add your existing rods and follow focus and your all set. If you have a link to the HDMI clamp for this version of the CAME TV cage, please post it so everybody can check it out.

My bad, the clamp I was thinking of was for a different CAME cage. I find it really odd that someone would make a cage that caters to the GH4 without this consideration...it's the most fragile, problematic part of the camera.

Can someone here tell me if Viewfactor Studios' Contineo Cage is shipping? Their blog & Facebook page haven't been updated since its initial release in July 2014. I emailed them, but haven't heard back.

I just don't want to place an order and find out it's going to take 2-4 weeks to deliver.

I ordered mine on 7/30 and received it on 8/6. It is very well made and has been a great foundation for my rig.

OK, I guess that give me a little more confidence. I also tried calling their office. No one answered - just got their voice mail.

Oh well.

A few shots of a compact handheld setup I'm testing.

Viewfactor Contineo cage, Wooden Camera NATO top handle, SmallRig 100mm NATO safety rail, and Beachtek MCC-2 audio adapter for Rode Videomic Pro and Sony wireless receiver.

That's a nice setup. How have you found operating the camera?

I've ordered this cage. Looking forward to getting it.

I like that Viewfactor's cage is tight to the body, so you can still easily handhold the camera. Wooden Camera's half-cage is more modular, but if you need a full cage that's form fit to the GH4, then this is the best I've used so far.

I've been following your blogs - great reviews and tips. Thanks for sharing your setup.

This review has edged me towards the Viewfactor cage https://vimeo.com/103519327 I like the way it wraps the camera allowing you to hold the camera normally.

Just received the motion9 gh4 cage and rod riser from a seller on the forums. Very impressed with the size, functionality, weight, and overall look of it.
