Best 8"-9" Monitor for T2i?

With the Canon T2i, what would be the best 8"-9" monitor at around $800?

*I heard that the T2i does not, even with the hdmi cable, support HD while recording.

thats correct, outputs SD when recording, HD when not recording.

The ManhattanLCD options are quite good and well within your budget.

An SD monitor is difficult to properly focus with, when setting your marks you are not recording, thus you will have HD on the monitor. This will allow you to set your marks easier and then use the SD signal to compose your shot while recording. So yes, HD would be better.

Do you think they will release a firmware update to support hd output whilst recording? Can the 5d do this? I know the 7d can.

Right, that's true.
But, doesn't that mean that I will also have to change the settings from HD to SD always?

Also, the Manhattan monitor: http://www.manhattanlcd.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=7005&CartID=1
Although it seems good, it is quite large and heavy. Not including the battery for it. I was leaning towards the Small HD. It does give a 720p, not 1080p like the Manhattan, but it is lighter, which is a big deal.

And a noobish question. What IS firmware?

I have an Ikan V8000 HDMI that is a pretty good monitor. I think it's 800 x 480 but it looks great.

That Manhattan you link to accepts a 1080p input (just like the Small HD) but the actual screen resolution is 1024x600.

So it seems that I should stick with the Small HD, eh?

Small HD doesn't say it supports 1080p, just full 720p from what I can see.
The Manhattan says it supports 1080p, but its not even 720p really.

The marshall; http://www.dvcreators.net/marshall-electronics-7-lcd-monitor/ has a lot of great features on it that other monitors don't have like false colour & peaking filter for focus. Which I can find very useful, however it is 800 x 480:Drogar-Thinking(DBG

The supplied manual makes reference to the fact that when recording the output signal is SD, but the recording to the SD card is HD. Perhaps Canon doesn't want to eat in to sales of the 7D...

Yea I was thinking about the Marshall too. I know its expensive, and that sucks, but I find I have worse buyers remorse if I talk myself into something less that I didn't really want. So what do you guys think about the Marshall 651ST-HDMI? That's the one I am thinking of getting.

That was the only Marshall I was thinking about, but its still under 720p, and its 6.5". not the 8 or 9" I preferred. But, I just looked at the price, and damn. Its $1,600!

Or maybe it is due to the single DIGIC 4 chip vs the dual on board of the 7D ? ;)

i went with the Small hD 1. Its a 9 inch. Just have to buy the cables/arm hookup i believe. HD too. So as long as its HD you can get the focus assit you need ect

On the other end of the spectrum....
Do you think a T2i would work worth a crap with one of those $120 portable DVD players?

I know it's not top o the line but at least it would be better than the on board lcd?? no?
