T2i Beachtek DXA-SLR XLR Adapter for T2i?

So my main question is will this adapter work well with the T2i? I heard the T2i only uses auto gain, but then I read a really good review on B&H saying it works great with the T2i. Soooo I'm confused. And for the record, I HATE syncing separate audio. That's why this looked promising. So can anyone shed any light (or personal experience) on the matter?

And for those who don't know which one I'm talking about: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/674344-REG/Beachtek_DXA_SLR_DXA_SLR_ACTIVE_DSLR_ADAPTER.html

I was looking at the DXA 5DA because it appears to have the same setup but it also has level meters. I'm not sure what the terms "active" and "passive" mean though. (and there's no reviews on it either.)

I have the DXA-5D (the old version) and a 7D, the DXA-SLR will work on your T2i. I'm here to tell you it works great and I would recommend it (actually I recommend getting the old DXA-5D if you can but they are hard to find ...because it has both the phantom power and the LCD)

I had the DXA-SLR and was running into massive digital noise on the left channel. The noise would only be there when there was audio. I tried 2 different units and they both were the same. I would not recommend it, I would recommend a tascam dr-100 or similar. Much better quality and CLEAN audio. You can't put a price on clean audio.

Are you sure you didn't have the AGC-Disable on? It fills a channel with noise to disable the Auto Gain Control and mixes all the inputs to the other channel. You're supposed to mute the Noise track in post.

RTFM

Yeah that sounds like the way everyone has said to cancel the AGC is through a method like that that'll completely turn one channel to **** while the other channel is completely clean.

Does this method on the Beachtek require you to only use a stereo microphone or will it work on mono?

I would like to bump this question and ask whats the difference between the "passive" and "active" versions of the DXA-SLR?? I'm looking to buy one for a t2i but need to know which one to buy

B&H's site is down this morning - but in general terms, active vs. passive: generally with this type of gear, "active" is powered, and the power enables the circuitry to do pre-ampish things, such as EQ, limiting, boosting, etc.

"Passive" is generally non-powered and the signal simply goes through the circuits, where only resistance can be used to alter the signal - you can cut volume or tone, but not boost it.

As for the AGC reducing things out there - these don't turn AgC off or "defeat" it, they actually turn it "on" full-time, by introducing a steady signal (tone or noise) that engages the limiter (AGC is simply a brickwall limiter with a preset threshold - in most video cameras it's a "linked stereo" limiter as well, so a loud tone on the left will also limit the right side volume). Thus, one channel of your audio is the tone or noise, the other is a mono signal - so, only one mic (or several mics can be mixed down to one signal - before they hit the camera).
