Barry video guide

Re: Barry video guide

Barry, I think that is a fair price and, like you said, you have to consider the price point for a huge range of financial situations. Many of the users on this board who can benefit the most from your work are students.

Re: Barry video guide

It's also the economics of deciding to sell more units with a lower profit margin, than fewer at a higher one. That being said, I'm in.

Re: Barry video guide

Yes, it is a fair price, but, unfortunately, we guys on the other side of the atlantic have to pay a bit more. We always end up paying a little bit more.

Hope we get the DVD soon.

All the best

Fidel.

Re: Barry video guide

The DVD is 4:3 because the camera is 4:3. Most of the video is shot 4:3. There are segments (most notably the anamorphic vs. squeeze vs. letterbox) where there's some widescreen footage, but the video is primarily all 4:3.

Re: Barry video guide

This price is more than fair. Once more Barry proves he is THE MAN in every meanings of the word... I'll definitely buy one.

"we guys on the other side of the atlantic have to pay a bit more"
shipping overseas may cost a little more but, in my case, since the Dollar / Euro change is good...

Re: Barry video guide

Now, for you PAL users... there are segments on the DVD that are authored as 60i, and there are segments that are 24P, but there's nothing that's specifically PAL.

Do you want me to try to make a 50i version (using Vegas to do the conversion) or are you content with the NTSC version, since so many PAL DVD players and TV's can show NTSC content (as well as being able to play it on your computer)... which would PAL users prefer?

Re: Barry video guide

To start with it'll be offered here, I'm looking at getting listed on Amazon and places like that, but the introductory special would all be direct orders.

Hey Barry, I just found a way of making a mini-35 for less than $200!!

Okay, just kidding. I'm high on uprez  :)

Re: Barry video guide

I added a small section on the up-rez process, and then a much more detailed section on why you'll see interlace artifacts if you display 30P footage on a television, stuff like that...

Re: Barry video guide

About the PAL users thing, I think most people would be happy to have it as is. As you said, you can always play it on a computer.

Re: Barry video guide

Gah!!! i hope i can afford thecamera before the deal runs out..... cause its silly to watch the tutorial without a cam in your hand ya know......

PS barry is taking this whole consideration thing to a new level for the PAL people

Re: Barry video guide

Barry and all. I finally registered after lurking for months and just wanted to give an official "hello and thankyou" for all the great info and such on this board. Barry, as soon as you're ready I'll be purchasing your guide, so thanks for that.

I should be using the DVX a lot over the next year, so maybe I'll learn some things so that I can add some value to the boards. It's going to be a tough road since I'm an old-school filmmaker, but the DVX is going to give me a lot more flexibility and I'll just really enjoy sharing what I learn with all of you.

Thanks again to Barry and everybody else for this great site.

J.
