Terminator 2 was pretty good.I'm watching the Colbert Report rerun right now, so forgive the format of this question, but:
Avatar sequel--bad idea, or worst idea?
Look, I love the movie, but can a sequel hold up? God knows, I don't want to see "Avatar: Reloaded" and "Avatar: Revolutions..."
I think Avatar geeks are properly titled Avatards.
And just what kind of offspring can Jake have with his Na'vi princess? Any chance of managing a crossbreed somehow?
Yes, at the end of the film he saw the spirit of Jake placed into the Na'vi avatar created by the humans and modified with Jake's DNA.Huh? You did see the end of the movie, right?

Not to get too technical but when you start mixing DNA there's now an outside factor that was never there before. But if it was a true hybrid than it would be half human in size and appearance. I didn't get that impression. He seemed to be a fully abled Na'vi. What I took is that they used enough of Jake's (actually his twin brother's) DNA for the neural link to work, but nothing more. He should be able to reproduce just fine. We know he can do the tail link tango. Considering we share around 97 percent of the same DNA as chimpanzees, the Na'vi, being bipedal humanoids, most likey share some genetic similarities to humans, so it's probably those similarities that have been spliced into the Na'vi genome to make Jake's Avatar.

Either way, his avatar is not a true Na'vi. It is part human, regardless of what percent that portion is it could cause issues down the line.
And yes, we share so much DNA with chimps but look at how different we are.
Now... think of that when altering a Na'vi with human DNA. Doesn't take much for big changes to occur.

CNN ran with that name for some reason; the "proper" name is still under discussion. "Avatarians", "Na'vi", and "Dreamwalkers" are some of the other suggestions I've heard.

Yes, but I never said that they couldn't reproduce. Neither did he.But big changes didn't occur. Nothing makes me believe Jake couldn't reproduce with another Na'vi, which was thartley's original comment. And we have 97 percent IDENTICAL DNA to chimps. If I took my 97 percent that was the same and mixed it with a chimp's identical DNA, you would still get a regular chimp. If you spliced only the DNA that was exactly the same in both Na'vi and humans, and left the stuff that makes a Na'vi a Na'vi, it would be a regular Na'vi. They're splicing genes, not mixing a human/Na'vi sperm and egg milkshake and seeing what falls out.
We have a bingo!re: Jake's Na'vi genome: count the fingers and toes on Jake's avatar, then count the fingers and toes on the true Na'vi...the phenotypical differences are immediately visible, and they're driven by genotypical variance.
We have a bingo!
Like I said, their children will probably be different. Who knows how different.
No problem. It's an interesting query.Looking back at thartley's original statement, I suppose it wasn't exactly questioning Jake's ability to have a child, which is how I originally interpreted it, so i guess it's just a misunderstanding. Didn't notice the toes before!
I do like the concept of how the Na'vi physically link to the world around them. Brings a whole new meaning to plugging into the matrix.
