FS7: Availability update thread

My salesman at Abel Cine hasn't heard anything about a pause in deliveries.
I think one from Abel got delivered in SF area this week. I hope to finally get my hands on it on Monday and play with lenses, codecs etc.

I've heard ( all second hand of course) that it takes a full revolution of the wheel on the grip arm just to change the iris one stop on the FS7 . That makes could make adjusting mid shot quite cumbersome on a doc. I think this is true whether using E Mt lenses or EF through metabones.

The wheel is definitely slow, but I had assumed it was a software issue, not a hardware one. If the hardware detection is limited to a full revolution, that's certainly problematic.

This is pretty bad news for me! I've been given till the end of the year to spend a budget of around $16k on a new camera and accessories for our school. Ideally it would have the ability to shoot 4k and raw, and be used for promo type videos as well as short films and documentaries. I was going to order this with the shogun and raw extension unit.

Be aware that the shogun doesn't record the FS7/FS700 RAW signal yet. It's on Atomos future update plan...
We know from the CG Odyssey7Q that this RAW signal is not easy to process and therefore I won't buy
any RAW-recorder as long as it doesn't have the ability to record the format that I want.

You can buy the FS7 together with the Odyssey or wait for the Shogun to ship with the FS7/700 RAW function.

What is iris wheel issue? Same as was on F5/F55? (too easy to rotate by accident)

The wheel is crap. It's the worst feature on the camera. At least, it is when using the EF Metabones Ultra adapter. There's a delay which varies between lenses, some lenses take an eternity to change and some lenses don't work at all. Part of the issue is no doubt the adapter, but the wheel isn't in the same class as the C300. Not a deal breaker though.

I just sold my FS700 and am saving up for the FS7. Although I don't have enough money, I would like to get in a queue. I know that B&H checks your credit card to make sure you have $8000 available. And Ablecine wants a $1000 deposit. Ideally, I want to get on an email list (in the US) where when it's my turn, they say, "If you have the money, it's yours." Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't know what their policies are, but I'd suggest trying E.C. Pro based in New York. I bought my PMW-F3 and my PXW-FS7 with them and they're great people. If you call them you'll get a human you can talk with about your situation. As a second company, you might try Showcase in Atlanta. Again, smaller shop, real humans will talk to you.

Good luck!

I second Viddovation, EC Pro is great to deal with... I believe these rumors are false, too. I think they stem from someone on twitter who said they heard from B&H that shipments stop, but every dealer I've spoken with say they haven't heard that and still expect shipments soon.

if you don't mind to pay 1k premium over then one vendor from ebay has it available to ship out right away. :)

The only item for the FS7 I found on ebay is a German seller that doesn't have the camera in stock. They are just waiting like the rest of us.

When I placed a preorder in Sweden I didn't have to make any initial payment. I'll just make full payment when they ship. They've made so many date changes so now I see them as just taken out of thin air. The latest I heard was 141128 but next year is probably more realistic.

Jim, I'd be happy to see what we could do for you at Band Pro. Drop me a line and I should be able to get you in line. Right now We are not requiring deposits.
