FS7: Availability update thread

Hi peeps,

I'm starting an availability update thread so we can pool information and get a realistic estimate on when we might be receiving our cameras. This could be useful if you're expecting to have your camera available for certain shoots dates.

If you want to contribute, just provide your pre-order date, whether you've gotten the camera yet, and maybe dealer. The idea is, if someone pre-ordered before you and haven't gotten theirs yet, you shouldn't expect yours either.

If you are a dealer, and you want to contribute general availability info, that'd be great, too.

I pre-ordered from B&H on 9/19. As of today (11/12), they could not provide an ETA for mine.

*UPDATE* As of 11/18, a B&H agent said they are expecting mine to arrive at their warehouse on 12/10.

*UPDATE* 11/25, the camera has been shipped from B&H and is on its way!

I honestly believe no one knows till they show up and then down the list it goes. I am in the top 3 pre-order from Vistek here in Canada and the original date was supposed to be Nov 1 but I have been told approx Nov. 28 but then in the same breath it was admitted that it could come earlier and that. I don't think any camera bodies have made it to Canada yet.

Changed my order from CVP to ProAV in the UK and gone from a December 1st to a maybe before the 27th delivery date.

Mine came in on monday 3rd already.
Due to a job I picked it up this monday.

It was one of the first here in mid-west germany...

They didn't receive more models since then.

I got mine last Friday from Texas Media Systems.

From my understanding, bigger places like B&H don't actually get a lot of their pre-orders filled right away because they tend to have different terms for stocking inventory (and sometimes tons of orders), whereas Texas Media Systems basically pays cash to Sony for cameras to fulfill orders. So just like if you or I were selling something, we'd probably sell to the guy giving us cash over someone saying they'll pay us in 60 days.

I got my Odyssey7Q months before a lot of other people did, also purchased through Texas Media Systems. Great guys to work with.

I'm assuming you pre-ordered the moment it came available?

Fair enough.

For us early adopters the camera does not really feel finished.
The firmware needs some tweaking before this camera will be the
gem that we're waiting for.

Nevertheless, I like the FS7 a lot.

I heard Sony have suspended shipment in order to fix some issues. If true then there will be no FS7 delivered this year from now.

If true, that implies something beyond firmware being fixed. And if so, I hope those who adopted early will be given an easy warranty repair/upgrade path.

Heard from whom?

And is the delivery date movement your speculation, or something more official?

According to one dealer Sony have put a hold on shipments of the FS7. If so it will take some time to fix already built cameras and implement these changes in the production chain. This will take at least a month. But hey the information could be wrong...

Mine came on October 30th. It was one of the first units into the UK. I've shot twelve days with it already. The firmware could definitely use a tweak, but I've had no major dramas.

This is pretty bad news for me! I've been given till the end of the year to spend a budget of around $16k on a new camera and accessories for our school. Ideally it would have the ability to shoot 4k and raw, and be used for promo type videos as well as short films and documentaries. I was going to order this with the shogun and raw extension unit.

Does anybody have any suggestions for what an alternative might be? Our institute doesn't get much money to update equipment very often so this would need to be usable for the next 5 years. I thought about the fs700, but its already a few years old. Then there is the blackmagic URSA and the scarlet, but both of these seem like digital film production cameras, rather than good all round cameras.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

It's 6wks+ to the end of the year... Why not wait a bit for some more official confirmation of this, beyond something that one dealer said?
