EVA1: Are you ugrading to, or buying the EVA1 ?

No worries! I'm probably responsible for some of that. It just feels like we're soooo close to a near-perfect camera... We have so many great choices these days regardless.

So, are you buying an EVA1? If not, what's holding you back?

I'm definitely interested but going to wait and see how it holds up when folk get their grubby mitts on it and put it through the wringer. I've had a fair few Panasonic cameras from the DVX100, HMC151, AF101 and GH1, 2 & 3 but have spent the last few years with the Canon C100 and its dpaf. Am in no rush to upgrade but the EVA has caught my attention - as has the C200, although would be up for a change from the very familiar 'Canon look'

Hi Puredrifting,

I'm one of the people who brought up the C200 in the other thread.

Have you had any experience with the 5D IV or 1 DX II? Someone else said the DPAF on those is far superior to the C200's, and this feature is what I really need. Any insight you have on this comparison would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Never shot with either so I couldn't make an assesment for you. I have shot with my 80D a lot and it does about the same quality but has far fewer DPAF controls and options than the C200 obviously.

is every Eva1 thread going to end up being about the af on a Canon?

I brought this up here as a rejoinder because PureDrifting must have missed similar portions of other threads that discussed it and because I felt that the debate lacked a top C200 shooter's input up to this point.

Everyone's free to buy what he wants. (pending the available financing).

Amira, Alexa, and Canon Cinema series user here but interested in this tiny camera for corporate work and events.

Just thought i ask you folks who shoot log and color your footage, does vlog have a wider color gamut compare to say clog2? Also which of these cameras handle over and under-exposure better? C200 or EVA1?

I'm suprised to see so many existing Panasonic owners who are leaning towards, or have purchased the C200. I suppose the internal Raw and
AF is something that is attracting them. I must admit I am leaning that way myself.
I'm still waiting to see how other DVX200 and GH5 owners upgrading to the EVA1 find the camera.

I'm sure the EVA will be tested, but you can see the C200 over/under here:

The EVA1 Newsshooter review is very interesting and seems to be pretty balanced.
From what I have read Matthew Allard seems to be saying the camera is very capable
and can produce some great images, but is not sure where it will sit in the sub 10K market
as the competition is strong.

He does say the EVA1 (in his opinion) offers the most accurate colour rendition of any of the sub $10K cameras.
But he stops short of saying the camera is worth the premium price over the GH5 or DVX200.
He also comments on the camera's many strengths and it's compact size and weight.
He also discusses it's DR, lowlight capabilities, the somewhat roundabout way of getting a manual white balance,
the one push AF and the EIS. and lots of other points.

As a DVX200 and GH5 owner I am still on the fence about upgrading but will wait until
some DVX200 / GH5 owners give their feedback about the camera.

P.S. if anybody from Panasonic is reading this it would be good if you could get the camera into the hands of existing
Panasonic owners looking at upgrading DVX200/GH5 or lowere priced Panny cameras etc.
I'd love to see what existing customers think of the camera and how they are
going to use it and how they rate it.

We are and we have.

Thanks Mitch, I'm looking forward to hearing from some real-world DVX200 / GH5
and lower end Panasonic users, and why they are upgrading to the EVA1.
Thanks

I started with Panasonic on first release of the HVX200, HPX170, and the AF101. I had only recently sold the AF101(which I really enjoyed) and was in the market for something new.

I picked up EVA yesterday and have only had an hour to play around. Of course, all of the above cameras have an EVF so my first thoughts on using the LCD were that I really do need to find a solution to help with my aging eyes. Is Zacuto the only loupe solution so far? The Z-Finder does seem a little bit pricey for what they are offering.

It was also very nice to have a Barry Green book with the previous camera releases. I have much to catch up on since the AF101 tech and I'm very much looking forward to digging in.

Good to hear someone has received the EVA1. Can't wait to see more footage from everyday users.........!!!! LET THE POSTINGS BEGIN!!!!!

This is so Wrong!

Panasonic wants to keep the price point low to compete with other cameras, so what do they do? They start yanking off parts & features until the price is competitive.

They yank the EVF, then also yank the auto-focus feature, yet they leave a minimum use push focus with enlarging squares because they know right up front you are not going to be able to focus the camera on the panel.

Regards - Mike

At least they didn't cheap out in requirement for focus puling artist like some other manufacturer.
