Apple iPhone4 and iOS4.0 - Thread

No idea. The Sony sensors are very good for the pixel size but i-phone only has a tiny fixed lens, it can't compare to a larger camera.

I was watching the new iPhone 4 video on the Apple site a while ago (it takes forever to load right now), they showed 720p video from it, it looked awesome for a camera phone, I couldn't believe it! Check it out if you have time.

I doubt the HDMI is active while recording, but it's 24p instead of 30, it's obviously designed for filmmakers:)

Shooting 720p HD and editing the clips in iMovie on the iPhone has to be the greatest thing ever. Absolutely amazing. I can't wait to play with the iPhone 4.

I'll just repost here the tweet of Stu Machwitz:

"If you shoot a feature film with an iPhone, please send me a ticket - to whatever's happening on the opposite side of the planet."

Classic...

But, I remember someone coming up with an idea a year ago or so on here:

Get twenty of these small cams (iphones), set them up all over the scene, find a good editor, and watch the magic. Sounds interesting to me.

That's like saying a thousand monkeys working at a thousand typewriters will eventually lead to Shakespeare. If you want amazing camera phone, check out the upcoming Nokia N8, 1/1.8" sensor. There's a nice clip on vimeo and a discussion at dpreview where a rep from Nokia talks about it.

Sounds like an idea the Beatles had...Magical Mystery Tour. At least we got some good music out of it.

That was not a good film. You had to be a SERIOUS Beatles fan to sit through that. I was about the biggest Beatles fan there was, and I think I could only make it through Magical Mystery Tour once.

Although, if taken in a "Birdemic" vein, it's pretty delightful.

No. Magical Mystery Tour was a pretty bad movie. They thought it would be a good idea to go around in their bus and record all the cool stuff that happened...nothing happened.

That's got to be a much smaller sensor. It might produce the same size output, but it is doubtful that the quality is the same.

It's a 5 megapixel with 1.75um pixels, BSI technology, and I heard Sony make it. Sony consumer camcorders have sensors of this pixel size and resolution these days. 5 to 7 megapixels on 1/2.88" and smaller.
