off topic: I will never ever touch anything with the name LaCie on it.
What about LaCie Mayer-Landrut?

very pretty composition/movement/color and a nice sense of drama. that model looks video as hell though unless it's the IG compression
What about LaCie Mayer-Landrut?
The thing that I recall was LaCie doing several sales of refurbished stock over a period of a year or two.
I thought how come they have so much refurbished stock? Obviously so much had been failing and come back under warrantee.
That (other than all the LaCie failures we had) put them on the black list for us.
Though as I noted above the Seagate(?) hard drives they used didn't fail and we used them for years after the LACie cases had gone.
And Seagate drives used to be my GoTo’s, until Best Buy stopped carrying them. Before we got really fast USB 3.0 and USB C, I used to love the Seagate drives with the switchable dock connectors. I had an eSATA dock connector that I’d use with my NEXTO when making simultaneous copies.
So, what do you guys all think of Lacie?

TL;DR: The M1 chip is competitive with the best non HEDT cpu on the market today, the new Ryzen 5950x. Integrated GPU rivals some discreet GPUs. Rosetta 2 performance translating from X86 is outstanding.
Blown away.
That a good reputation is hard to gain but easy to loose.
I spoke to the LaCie Rep at https://www.bscexpo.com and he seemed quite dejected. He told me that Seagate now owned the brand. I told him I had no problem, with Segate HDD's but now I had solid state alternatives for external drives and other reliable suppliers for NAS.
I note Wiki Says
Joel Kamerman founded La Cie on three principles:
• Profit was more important than revenue
• Product differentiation would create profit
• Vertical integration was key to La Cie's long term viability
so they went for Pretty boxes and profit..... That bit their long term viability on the bum.
It's so remarkable.
We are witnessing one of the greatest technological transitions in history.
Half-ass computers being made with subpar hardware costing questionable sums have vanished overnight.

The base price of the MBA is $999. This is unprecedented if performance is as expected.
If this thing cuts through R5's H.265, I'll lose it. (Because the iPad does and a $15K Mac Pro doesn't.)
Yeah. I don't know if people grasp what a big deal this is. I am absolutely floored - FLOORED - that a Macbook Air is roughly equitable to a large box desktop workstation I am building with Ryzen 5950x in single core performance. This kind of change is unprecedented in the industry, it's a complete quantum leap in computing performance. Obviously it's not fully equitable when considering all things a workstation allows for in RAM, GPU, etc. And the 16-core 5950x Multicore still trounces the 8-Core M1 But...
I am wondering if the Windows OS running on the AMD chip is part of the reason why the M1 does as well as it does. Once all of the hardware is out I would love to see a benchmark comparison running some native Linux apps on both platforms.

... I'm almost scared to see what they do in larger footprint/form factor devices. When this architecture gets scaled up 'unleashed' in the incoming pro models next year or so, accompanied by the stronger GPU, etc. it may be a total blood bath. We will need more benchmarks to really tell, and a year of field use to find the gotchas - but the way this is looking, Apple may have an insurmountable hardware advantage for Pros again for sometime.
If their $999 macbook air rivals a desktop 5950x... what is going to happen on a $3k 16" Macbook pro? An iMac Pro? A desktop box Mac Pro?
Ok, I take it back. Good pre-order y'all. Good pre-order. You win this round.
