Apollo & Odyssey firmware 2016.06

In reference to the latest firmware:
We are not able to meter 2 channel audio (1-2, LR) as the meters show us what seems to be 1&2 on Odyssey Ch1 and 3&4 on Odyssey Ch2
what are the settings to see normal Ch1-2 from SDI or HDMI?
 
Has anyone else tested out the switching on the Apollo in 2016.06 (or on the Odyssey in Apollo Mode)? Used it to do a live switch for a bunch of interviews last week and found it applied a 1-frame dissolve on every single edit. I've tested it since (ensuring it isn't in fade mode) and can't seem to avoid it. I've since reported it to Convergent Design, but I'm interested to hear if anyone else has found the same problem
 
That is our cut mode. It is technically a dissolve between two frames. This insures a smooth transition whether you're in a progressive, PSF or interlaced mode.

So, is this a symptom of being able to mix frame rates in the 2016.06 firmware? Because this issue wasn't present in the 2016.01 firmware. We're shooting on a C300 and 3 x FS7s and did not have a problem with this in the 2016.01 firmware. It is definitely not a look that we want and our editor is having to re-cut EVERYTHING we've shot in the 2016.06 firmware. We've also downgraded back to 2016.01 to avoid it in future until it's fixed.

Just to clarify, is this a look (1-frame-long dissolve between each shot) that Convergent Design are content with their device producing?
 
Let me check with engineering to learn more about this. While it was mentioned to me I did not realize it was a change on this firmware. I'll see what's up with it and let you know for the future.
 
Had an issue on a shoot yesterday where i was not able to switch from FSRAW UHD to 2K HFR ProRes anymore... Odyssey stated FS700 ProRes Boot Error or something similar. Couldn't resolve the issue and was forced to stick with UHD ProRes. What a Bummer! Did anyone else have this issue?
 
Update on 2-frame dissolve v. straight cut. This will be corrected in our next firmware update. Cuts will return to being straight cuts, aka "zero frame cuts".

Sorry to hear this. Did you try power cycling the camera or the Odyssey to reset? Please report this to cdsupport@convergent-design.com so that our engineers can attempt to replicate the issue.
 
i tried with and without any signal connected to port SDI A, power cycling camera and odyssey, changing recording modes in the odyssey. unfortunately, the first thing that happens is that the odyssey's screen goes black on restart and then never comes back again with the selected HFR mode. then, once i power cycle the odyssey a few times it seems to work again, but in the recording menu both FS700 ProRes and HFR ProRes is highlighted green and i can't select or deselect any of these two, only all the other modes. Then i select and restart in 4K UHD and i can record again. i'll try to post some screenshots and forward this to cdsupport.
 
UPDATE:

After writing an email to CD, they figured out the issue, just in case anyone has the same problem:

First lets perform a Factory Reset ( Gear > Odyssey > Reset > ALL (Factory Defaults) - doesn't affect Firmware, licenses, etc - only affects Camera and monitor selections and Clip numbering (resets to 001) mostly all Setup menu items easily reset)

Now if this does not resolve the "Boot Failed" error - then what we need to do is flush out our memory - we have 2 slots to flush - So select Camera - ARRI, Monitor - ArriRAW -> RAW (.ARI) - ~4 minutes to load ( one memory flushed ) Then select Camera - Canon, Monitor - RAW -> RAW (.RMF) - again ~4 minutes to load (flushes the second memory location) AND FINALLY then return to the Sony FS700 Camera and try to load any of those Monitor settings that gave the BOOT FAILED. This time is will load a FRESH copy of the instructions into the memory and correctly boot up.

i did the latter upfront as i had the time and was to lazy to dial in all the settings again :)

as usuall kudos to CD Support, they did a fabulous and fast job! I hop that this issue doesn't occur again though, hope your're looking into this.
 
Glad to hear you cleared it up. I wouldn't expect this to happen often, if fact it may never happen to you again. A bazzillion different things could have occurred that brought this about and will never coincide again. For all I know a gamma particle caught in a cosmic wave passed through a particular gate in the FPGA just as it's data point was being reconfigured, resulting in this error. Sometimes you just don't know.

Waited aprox 7 minutes before pulling the plug.
Rebooted the unit - reformatted the sad - recopied the FW all good - to note - it seems the unit did hold the update during the white screen as it updated Odyssey2016.06.1431 to Odyssey2016.06.1431

I'm updating right now and the screen went white as well. Kind of nerve wracking?

Mitch, if you read this, should I just sit and wait it out? Or pull the plug?
 
Sorry, just logged on and saw this.

You should wait it out. If the screen goes black (occasionally happens) or white (kinda rare) you should just let the process continue. A firmware upload takes less than an hour, so if you wait a full hour then pull the plug it should be complete. Then power it back up and all should be well. If not, give us a call.
 
Mine turned black during the last update. But plugging the FS700 into the SDI got the image back! (As recommended by CD somewhere). Will this also work when screen turns white?
 
That recommendation is in the firmware update instructions (I should know, I wrote them). The white screen is related to a different issue and may or may not be affected by a signal on the SDI A input. The white is fairly rare. So far I only know of about half a dozen instances in the many thousands of units we have out in the field.
 
They forgot to mention that the audio out of SDI does not work with the canon cameras. heads up. You need to revert back to the january firmware/2 channel audio.

This is not correct. The actual story here is that there is a quirk where one must do a FACTORY RESET on the Odyssey7Q+ after updating to firmware 2016.06. Otherwise certain cameras (notably some Canon cameras) will have no audio on the meters or through the headphone jack, although it will usually still record and be available in playback. We added the note to do the Factory Reset to the firmware update instructions but many people didn't notice.
