Anybody Got Line on USB Type II Card Reader?

[David Saraceno]

Alot of USB Compact Flash card readers.

I can't seem to find a USB Type II Card reader, or preferably a firewire Type II Card Reader.

Anybody seen one?

Don't we need it to be 32bit, I'm not positive on this and I can't find any specs for this reader.

PCMCIA is only 16 bit.

EDIT: I guess I was wrong. There is a 32 bit flavor called cardbus

So would this one work for all us people with no PCMCIA slot on out computers or laptops.

You need 32 bit cardbus reader. Most of those need direct access to the 32bit bus, hence most will only do 16 bit, which will not work.

This is the only thing I know of that MIGHT work without connecting to the REAR of your desktop computer.

Well Panasonic makes the bargain AJ-PCD10 5xCardbus to usb2, only 2756...

My view then is there is simply nothing available for Type II 32-bit readers within a reasonable price point.

And certainly not firewire readers.

best bet is still to buy a laptop with slot included. There are lots of inexpensive options, but Im waiting for the New Apple Powerbooks to be released in a couple weeks. That will be the best bet if you can swing it.

What's the rumor on the apple laptops? They are tight-lipped about these things, so is it just speculation?

Not a USB solution but easy enough for anyone with a desktop -- http://www.amtron.com/reader/pcdtp202cs.htm
