Either move it back OR add mass - either works - one is not right or wrong (as you imply) - pick your devil.
Fair enough. My argument is that moving the camera body back is counter to the camera's design. Doing so introduces a host of issues that are not introduced with counter weight. Issues such as increased difficulty in accessing side controls while shooting, placement of an iris ring in a more difficult to operate position, a less stable frame when long lens since the sensor plane is closer to the pivot point of the total mass instead of being out in front of the center point of the total mass. ( fore / aft tilting of the camera moves the frame more than when the sensor plane is forward of the pivot point. Something that occurs when shooting with DLSR's where the sensor plane is located at the center of the camera's total mass and results in the "jittery" look. )
There is no wrong or right, as you note. My opinions and preferences are just that, opinion and preference. My apology if I came across as declaring THE way to do things. We will all hotrod and customized as we see fit, to fit our own preferences, shooting styles, and needs. In fact, we should start a "Show us your Fs7 rig!" thread where owners can post pictures of their rigs as they develop.
I am waiting on arrival of some accessories but once they arrive and I have them fitted I will post a photo of my rig.
A thank you to Morgan and all who share input on this forum. I have learned much from others and I have picked up several useful tips such as the Commlite adapter that has made my shooting much more enjoyable. Inverting the mic holder on the Fs7 was another great tip posted here.
