Composite video out.
I just heard the cam has only Digtal outputs. Which is all fine for recording and high end monitoring, but Composite still has it's place on set.
Analog composite outputs are still incredibly important in a lot of production environments. All these sugestions of cheap adiational referance monitors tacked on the camera in all sorts of places rely on an affordable connection.
Looking at the number of focus asist (and related) threads, I thank most people are expecting a composite output as standard for granted. I certainly was.
If I stick the RED on a jib, I don't want to need to use a SDI monitor for simple framing. Or if I need to transmit a video signal from my Steadicam to video village, or the audio guy (who dones't need HD, he just wants to see who is talking), I have to downconvert to Composit video as HD transmitters are still non-exisitant. In fact my Steadicam monitor isn't HD ready yet, as most cameras give an SD output, or come with a downconverter form the rental house.
How about if I'm doing a multicamera shoot with REDs, the camera ops don't need an HD-SDI monitor, nor the director for framing. If I need a quick setup and all I have as an SD monitor, then it should work. If I'm on set with a greenscreen, I have a nice HD-SDI monitor for shooting with, but my vectorscope to check the lighting on the green is a Composite vectorscope, I want to be able to use it, not have to get a very expensive HD-SDI scope to check a simple chroma phase, or maybe an overall lighting level.
If RED is going to be a camera to end redundency, then leaving out a composite output would be a huge mistake, making hundereads of peices of SD monitoring gear redundent.
(and yes, the output should be PAL/NTSC switchable of course)
