HPX250: AJ-PX270 new youtube video

I have a HPX250, and it's OK. Would welcome the bettter viewfinder and the creep zoom. Great for run'an'gun. But for tripod work, I still use my HPX500. The small 1/3rd inch sucks for shallow DOF when I'm shooting in a small room. But, that's why you should have more than one camera. At least, that is what works for me. I don't shoot movies, so I guess one camera might work for some.

Scott Hiddelston wrote after seeing a pre-production model of the PX-270 in Portland:
I had a very small opportunity to get my hands on the PX270 yesterday at the Cascade Mt. Show in Portland. It was an engineering example, which I was told was pre-production. The zoom rocker was phenomenal, in my opinion nicer than even the XF300. The zoom rocker AND the zoom ring could be used at the same time without switching, and the zoom ring did not exhibit that "slack' in the ring at the outer extreme which makes it difficult to get a slow start on a zoom. The EVF is large and clear, but the LCD is disappointingly small compared to the lovely one on the XFR300. I tried what I felt was difficult auto-focusing scenes, like maximum zoom and moving from subject-to-subject, and maximum zoom in difficult light and low contrast, and the focus held perfectly throughout. No hunting at all. On the other hand, at the Canon booth it was all Cinema EOS with no-one even remotely interested in talking XF and its future.

I just checked the manual and it does not indicate any modes that it does not work in, so my interpretation is that it works in all modes.

Hope this helps,

Jan

Hi,

I am retiring from Panasonic at the end of March, so unless they hire me as a consultant to work their booth I will not be there. They may not be able to get the paperwork done in time and I can certainly appreciate that these things take time in a big organization. Anyhow if I am not there, my spirit will be.

All the best,

jan

Hi Jan, do you thing that the PX270 and the HPX250 can match together ?

Can we expect the Ultra family working on the HPX250 ?

Thanks.

With the 12 point color correction on the PX270 this should be fairly easy. Just know the scen files you have will not load, so you will have to do the hard work of matching with vectorscope.

Not likely, the Dyna chip would have to be installed and it is not there, nor is there space for it.

Best,

Jan

Jan,

If this is your swan song, I'd like to thank you for your kind participation here. I know it hasn't always been easy. I sure hope Panny assigns someone to pay attention to this board and all the PannyHeads.

it's too bad...oh well...

Thank you so much Jan.

Hi Jan!

Did you ever find out the answers to my questions by any chance:

1) Does the camera have the same focus distance readout in feet that other Panasonic cams have?

2) Do you know anything about the stabilization?

3) We are looking at mixing this with the GH4...any suggestions on best to do that? Because the GH4 shoots 8bit 4:2:0 internally, will it match okay with some tweaking of course? Any guidance here would be greatly appreciated.

Also, thank you for all your help over the years on various threads. Much appreciated and congrats on a successful retirement.

Awww...Jan, thank you throughout the years! Appreciate all your informative posts and getting the Panny mojo to where it is today. Hopefully you had a last say on the AF200. ;) Wish you the best!

Thanks for you years of service, it will be hard for Panasonic to replace you, your customer support has been wonderful. Best of luck in what ever new venture you take.

Thanks for all the well wishes folks, I appreciate the kind words. But let's get back to the PX270. This little camera is just amazing.

Agreed. I for one think that Panasonic called this one correctly. This is exactly the camera I've been hoping for. I just hope it doesn't get lost in the 4k hoopla. I don't need or want 4k, but I need most of what this camera has to offer. Time to start scraping the pennies together!
