AG-DVX200 4K Large-Sensor Handheld Camcorder

Thanks for your exhaustive answer Barry.
Unfortunately, my headphones was plugged in the right way, near DC IN 12.0V.
I've tried the output AUDIO OUT, just to test it : for sure, there is a huge delay here ! My problem is different.

It's a kind of strange noise and vocal short resonance (when I speak in quiet place for example).
Not a clean live sound like my Panny 101, but rather "cybernetic" or metal boxe effect.
(almost like Milan Fras voice in WAT Laibach song).
It appears only in live situation, with headphones. Not in replay, rushes are safe.
Very disturbing..

EDIT : a more precise word to describe the DVX200 audio monitoring issue : like a "Phase" effect !!

So, I do a large number of available light type of events and docs. I am concerned that the slowness of the lens at the long end will be a problem. Has anyone tested out how this camera compares to an EX1r or similar camera which is 2.8 at the long end? I did view the comparison video with the EX3 and the DVX200, but it looked like they were staying at the short end of the lens during that trial.

Thinking of selling my AF100a...I can't decide whether to upgrade to the DVX200 or the Sony FS700R, which recently dropped in price on B&H...The DVX200 is still going to be around around $500 cheaper than the FS700R with the lens, but I like the fact that the FS700R has a Super 35 sensor AND you can shoot 4k with the odyssey 7Q+. Can anyone confirm whether the DVX200 will do well in low light compared to the FS700? I've been a Panasonic user for life, but I don't want to be disappointed by Panasonic again if I invest in the DVX. To be honest, the AF100 was pretty underwhelming...I know the DVX200 hasn't come out yet, but does anyone have suggestions? Is it worth investing in a 1080p camera like the FS700r (although it is 4K Ready, at a significant cost) or should I just go for the in-cam 4K DVX?

Have you written off the Ursa mini 4.6k and if so why? Just curious.

Black Hole sensor issue is inexcusable IMO and it's out of my price range at $5000 for the body-only.
But, in your opinion, since the Black Magic is out of the question for me, what would you suggest between the FS700R or the DVX200?

It may have been, but I can't find any info confirming that the issue doesn't exist on the Ursa Mini. Regardless, I'm much more comfortable with using Sony or Panasonic cameras as I have worked with them in the past. That is not to say that I'm opposed to learning new equipment, but I just like the look of the FS700R, and the in-cam 4K of the DVX200 is tempting, but it is still using a 4/3 sensor as opposed to Super 35, and of course the lack of interchangeable lenses...The question is, which one is worth investing in? I need a camera that preforms better in low light than my AF100! Not sure if the 4/3 sensor of the DVX can outperform the Super 35 sensor of the FS700 in that regard or not...even in the DVX is in 4k...It's a very difficult decision!

The 4.6K USA and URSA Mini are using a different sensor than the last year URSA. But whatever floats boats and so on.

DLD, thanks for posting the night footage. It looks very nice, very clean, and sharp with good color. How wide were you with the lens?

Not the DVX200 comparison you are looking for but there is a comparison here between the EX1r and the GH3. Keep in mind the GH4 is even better than the GH3 and the DVX200 is likely a bit better than the GH4. Not exactly low light as in the dark at night but it is low light as in interior room lights only types of shots. The GH3 is this sample is using a f2.8 lens but f4.5 is only 1 and 1/3 stop slower and its a newer sensor.

I think we probably have to specify what recording mode for low light too. Some of the recording modes use more of the imager than others and are sampled/scaled while UHD 50/60P looks to be a 1:1 pixel recording.

I'd expect an s35 sensor to likely be at least a stop inherently more sensitive than a 4/3 sensor, assuming all else equal - this follows from it being approx. twice the area.

But in terms of actual performance it'll depend on the lens. Put a max f4 lens on the FS700 and they'll likely be similar - put an f2 or f1.8 lens on the FS700 and expect it to be a very clear winner.

Have you looked at the FS5? Sony have apparently tweaked a couple of factors to get an extra half stop or so out of it, even though the same sensor as the FS7. Certainly looked pretty good in very low light when I saw it last week, even with only the kit lens on.

I just recently built a new video editing computer complete with a 31" LG 4K screen. When you watch the high ISO footage from that video at 4k resolution you can see the noise and grain on my screen. At 1080 though the same footage looks very clean!

Most high ISO's the DVX will likely down res beautifully with minimal noise problems. I noticed this with my GH4 as well.

My understanding from some reviews is the Mini has solved that black hole problem.

Sorry, not my footage. I just found it on YouTube. (it was shot in Amsterdam, btw).

Yes, after I wrote the post it occurred to me that this wasn't your footage. I saw the poster in the video which indicated that the footage was shot in Amsterdam and it dawned on me that you just found the footage and gave us access to it. Thanks anyway. I guess what I need to do is to wait a bit until the camera is readily available and then go and rent one and see if it works for me. I am looking forward to it. Looks to be a nice upgrade to the Sony EX1r that I have been shooting with for a while.
