I don't understand how judgements are truly made by people

Does everyone on here but me have the "exact" same color settings on there monitors that I don't know about?

Is there a way to copy your video from your camera directly to Vimeo so that the color isn't affected?

Are all the videos for every camera always taken on default?

I just did a Weekend of shooting in an indoor arena.
It was about 70 meters by 30 meters (clear span).
I only had the choice of standing at 1 end.
One 70m side of the arena was open to the outside and the early mornings started with the sun coming in.
The other side had a window, and the far end had a always open door that was about 15ft wide and 20ft high.
Sometimes there was cloud, other times it was clear and sunny.
It was a live event so I had to record all day.
I'm "definitely" not an expert, but I could never get the picture to be consistent all day every day!

I don't know how people say, "this is wrong and this is right", "I do like this and I don't like that".

So how do you all decide that the camera does this and that?

Sure, not doing well in low light, or being out of focuses is clear . But things like color, maybe that could be fixed just with a slight adjustment that people never give themselves time to figure out (or don't want to).

All I can say is that you all have me beat on how you do it!

+ 1 here...

Philip Johnston has review online. I thought footage looked good until around 17:10 and 18:30. I don't think skin tones came out very well. Don't know what profile it was shot with.

Skin tones seem to oversaturate magenta, which is probably simple tweek in the settings. Other than that, yeah, I thought the footage looked very good.

PayPal Credit just sent me an email this morning saying they decided to up my credit line considerably... I'm pretty sure I know how it's going to be spent... :)

Well , you could really step up and by an open box Varicam35 package that I have at our cost ...$29,000.00......???

I agree that Vimeo is tough to judge. Maybe I am "skin tone-peeping" (analogous to pixel peeping) but the highlighted sections of skin look undersaturated and somewhat blocky to me. Maybe it's just web compression?

I saw the same. . .are you talking about that "greyness" to the skin tones? I've been bitching about that since they started releasing sample footage way back when.

Yes, that's what I am seeing. Wonder though if that's present on the uncompressed footage.

I especially like the shot of the cameraman shooting himself at 19:22. This camera does look promising though.

maybe it is just 'net compression. now that im hip to it i see it everywhere...watching Big Bang Theory from the cbs website the other day, into my tv via hdmi, yup, there it was. cant imagine it originally aired like that.

i wish someone would just upload some raw footage of skin tones, as in straight from camera, to a server (NOT vimeo, youtube, etc.) so we could really see. even if just ten seconds.

Hey Jim, since you've now had some hands on time with it, what's the battery life like? I've read the PX270 with the same batteries isn't that great, but I've read elsewhere folks using those batteries getting extremely long run time with them.

The battery life is pretty similar to an AF100. I accidentally left it on without the LCD pulled out and battery use seem pretty negligible. BTW is Scene 1 likely to need color saturation boost to make it look like a GH4 in natural mode. Here is a video containing shots by both cameras. Can you tell the difference?

Had one of the production cams for a few days and due to schedule could only get out there for an hour or so with it.

Finally some footage I really like. Thank you, Noel. Looking clear and with nice dynamic range, not "tweaked" like so many examples before. Maybe with the DVX200 one has to be VERY careful with the settings?

Look's good to me!
I always like the idea of seeing a fast pan following fast motion, but most people don't do that sort of thing.
When I say fast I'm not talking picture warp, just panning with someone riding a bike at a good speed, that sort of thing.

I'm sure the pixel peepers will find something wrong with it.

I've been turned into someone who:
watches something the first time round,
thinks it looks good,
then watches it again to try and see what other people will find wrong with it that I don't.
Because that's what people who watch things do.
