AG-DVX200 4K Large-Sensor Handheld Camcorder

Maybe next time how about some realtime zooms. It's really important.

Oh yes, Sam Peckinpah would be very pleased. Otherwise I think the fiction-oriented spec sheet of the DVX would not include any kind of zoom (except extremely slow digital Zooms realized in post.)

By the way - he would have been very pleased with the DVX200 in those days.

Folks might be referring to "After testing the Panasonic DVX200 in various environments like ENG and EVENT style shooting.." where zooms are more helpful..though there is no "rule" against it in fiction...despite the foot stomping you may hear about that.

you still can't beat a well done push in, greater viewer imersersion.

BTW, on a more serious note but still frivolous, I think the record may be the Blackmagic Cine Cam intro thread that had about 1688 posts before Landmark moved it to BMCuser. At least
this thread has an obvious home at DVXuser.

aside from any sarcasm or prime lens purity, I am really serious about the new generation Leica Dicomar 4K. As much as I would love to use a Canon 50-1000mm servo for particular types of shots it's very impractical for me to use.

By the way, anybody have any info regarding 10-bit 4:2:2 slow motion external capture? How's the protocol to let's say a Shogun 4K slowmo capture?

This shot in the footage seems pretty telling to me. In certain situations, you will get over-exposure and there is little you can do about it. So the question is, how does the camera handle over-exposure, and with this shot I'm pretty pleased. Note that the sun in the top yellows appropriately and on the path, the coloring is different. A far cry from the AF100's general poor handling of highlights. The path seems to have a bit of a "purple" hue, but I would attribute that more to chromatic aberration from the lens on a prototype camera, rather than poor processing or sensor.

Overall very pleased so far with DVX200 highlight handling.

I am waiting for them to declare the color science "final" before doing extensive testing and commenting on it. Preliminary testing shows that it is very different from the AF100 and other Panasonics (AC160, etc). My gut feeling is that they've got it right this time, but -- again, until it's final, I cannot say that yet. But it looks good.

Not sure if I'm in the minority or not, but to this day I still love the color science out of the HMC150/hvx/hpx cameras. There's a lot of technical flaws now compared to newer stuff, but the colors were really nice most of the time. I'd love for it to be similar to that.

A lot of people do, why do you think so many people still use them. I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone wanted them to go off 3CCD.

People wanted the full raster images that they apparently were not able to get from 1/3 CCDs and with greater sensitivity. I still like CCDs for a lot of my work and the Panasonic CCD cameras have a nice look to them. That "look" didn't seem to carry over exactly to the CMOS cameras. In fact if the HMC 150 just had a better LCD I would have bought 2 more even if they couldn't manage more resolution.

**edit** I meant fully resolved 1080 images with full raster chips, not using spatial offset tactics to up res to a 1080p image. I think you know what I mean. I'm tired

impressive. also minimal rolling shutter. great tones!!

david

sure great overall tones. but look at the skin tones at around 1:50, that 4:2:0 is struggling. that dynamic range stretch is pushing out the natural color from the skin and then softens it. some parts where the facial hair should looks greenish. overall though the motion is very filmic.

The focus is off ( the truck is sharp, the guys in the foreground look soft ) and you're dealing with Vimeo compression, so without having access to actual camera footage you really can't tell what is going on. Give it another month and hopefully we will get a chance to play with production quality camera footage.
