Guys,

I've got an AG-AC160 for the weekend. What would you like to see? Settings? Shots? Tests? Post them here and I'll do what I can. I'll update this thread with the requests as they come in.

Requests…

1. Low-light shots, both with and without gain. (Done. See below.)
2. VFR overcrank and undercrank shots.
3. Moire tests on patterned cloth. (Done. See below.)
4. Skew tests at varying focal lengths. (Done. See below.)
5. Bokeh tests at typical interview focal lengths. (Done at 64mm and 86mm. See below.)
6. Highlight blowout color tests in different gamma modes.
7. Wide street scene from about 70 feet away.
8. Skin tones (medium and close-ups).
9. Handheld OIS. (Done. See below.)
10. High-contrast shots with DRS on and off. (Done at all levels of DRS settings. See below.)
11. Testing new shooting modes with FCP7. (Done. See below.)
12. Lens flare test. (Done. See below.)

Moire tests on patterned cloth, skew tests at various focal lengths.

Bokeh tests at typical interview focal lengths.

Highlight blowout color tests at various gammas.

Shots similar to a full-stage shot... that is, of a scene about 50 feet wide with people moving around... if no theatrical production is available, a wide street scene would do. Ideally shot from about 70 feet away...

Please can you test on board microphone in very loud environment in manual levels and AGC (automatic gain control)
Some older models had problems with audio clipping in loud environment (rock concert and live music in weddings) even with manual settings and external microphone audio was not good
(I found workaround with external attenuator set to -20db or -30db)

Can you test OIS working hand held

Thank you

Naturally, it hasn't rained here in months…and now it's raining. So tomorrow looks like it will be the day for all of my testing. I may also have some time Monday to do some green-screen tests and a few other more "controlled" shots.

Also, one big question that I'm not sure you can help with… but will FCP7 handle the new shooting modes?

One is PM, 720p at 9mbps IIRC; there was also another low-biteate 1080 mode. Also, PH mode with LPCM audio!

Okay, so this is the last call for footage requests. Anyone else want to see anything in particular while I've got the 160 in my hands?

And extra-special thanks to Terry and Philip at Texas Media Systems for letting me test out the camera!

Okay, my first "test" is done. I set up my color chart in a photo light box in my office (that's all I really have access to at the moment). Then, I set up the camera as follows…

- Custom White Balance
- 0db Gain
- CINE-V Settings (No Customization)
- ND OFF
- f-stop Kept Between f5 and f8
- Focus Assist on Center of Chart

Next, I stepped through each of the shooting "modes" as requested by ullanta. In the order I shot, they are…

- PH 1080/60i
- PH 1080/24P
- PH 720/30P
- PM 720/60P
- PH 1080/30P
- PH 720/60P
- PH 720/24P
- HA 1080/60i
- HE 1080/60i

The .zip file linked to below is to a card image as copied straight off my Panasonic 16GB SDHC card. Feel free to download and test in the NLE of your choosing.

All nine clips showed up properly for import in FCP 7.0.3.
