AF100 Manual?

excuse me if i am not correct. but if i read this right, in VFR mode the use of a slow shutter is disabled; does this include the over/under crank mode too? so no motion blur effects can be used?

The "slow shutter" is a video-only feature. In VFR mode you can use the syncro scan function, which will let you go from 10 to 360 degrees.

That means you can get as blurry (or, well, blurrier) than any film camera can ever do. The "slow shutter" function lets you choose shutter speeds slower than your frame rate, but that's really not an accurate statement because it's impossible to have a shutter slower than your frame rate, so what the slow shutter does is actually drop your frame rate. So if you want 1/2-second exposure, you'll get no more than two distinct frames per second. That's the way it works, that's physics in action -- it's impossible to expose a frame for longer than its frame rate. In VFR mode it lets you expose for exactly as long as your frame rate. In slow shutter it lets you expose even longer, at the expense of not having that many frames per second.

So 1/2-second exposure yields 2 usable frames per second.
1/3 = 3
1/4 = 4
1/6 = 6
1/8 = 8
1/12 = 12
1/15 = 15
1/24 = 24.

About the manual: the dimensions list the length of the AF100 body as 11-7/16 inches. Is that from the tip of the handgrip to the end of the viewfinder eyepiece (without the rubber eyecup?). I'm looking at the drawing in the manual as a reference.

Just trying to see if we need to order some longer rods for use with our existing mounting hardware.

Many thanks!

thanks for that barry, just the way it read seemed like it was unusable as a feature which didnt seem correct. i loved using the film degree shutter on the hvx and it will be even more of a treat for creativity on the af. as for the ratios you mentioned, will have to look into those for my own knowledge.

for rods Petros, brian over at Redrock Micro had the af100 rigged to their baseplate, Zeiss CP2 prime, FF and matte box with 12" long rods. this size was roomy for a prime setup but longer rods im sure would be needed for a zoom if your keeping the mattbox on.

Thanks a million Daniel! We have 12" rods already and don't normally use a matte-box in day-to-day shooting. Sunshade yes, but those can mostly sit on the end of a lens without support. I will wait for the AF100 to arrive before buying anything in haste.

The body itself is about six and a half inches, from the front of the lens mount to the back of the SD card door.

The only way I can make it measure 11 7/16 inches is from the front of the removable top handle (the pointy-out bit at the very front) to the back of the rubber eyecup. Not the eyepiece, mind you, but the back of the rubber eyecup! From the handle to the back of the eyepiece is 9 1/4 inches.

Thanks so much for taking the time to measure that Barry. I think the setup we have will work well then.

And yeah, when I saw those figures I couldn't imagine the body being so long after hearing about how diminutive it was. Again, your time is greatly appreciated.

I feel like I'm waiting for a Red Rider BB gun! I was good this year, I swear!
