Af100 and shoulder mount Tilta rig... Pretty cool

Thats what I did and all works perfectly. One big deal with the baseplate is how low it sits on your shoulder. Its a good two inches lower than using the Zacuto with s pad. I tried it with an F3 as well and it worked great.

Erik, could you post a pic of your rig with the tilta baseplate? I'm looking to get it, but need to see what parts I need to get to build the whole thing.

Love the Tilta shoulder mount. It's great just to pop the camera off the tripod (Sony Betacam camera plate) and throw it up on your shoulder. AF-100 is positioned almost directly above your shoulder (which I like) 3 1/2 lb. weight counter balance almost perfectly balances the rig (depending on the lens). If it's a lot of shoulder mount shooting Atlas camera support makes the rig nearly weightless on shoulder. I'm happy now with my shoulder rig setup.

Could you post a pic of your rig and a list of gear and locations you bought it at? It's frustrating as heck figuring out what/where to buy a good hand held system!

I have a quick few questions if anyone can answer.

I have a manfrotto 501 head, is that not going to be able to support this?

Also, does anyone ahve the specs on the monitor it comes with if you choose to purchase the full kit? I'm going to need to purchase one if I get this rig anyways, so I'm hoping it's decent quality.

Sorry it took so long. Here are two configurations that work well. In the handheld mode it works fine on the tripod as well but is better balanced for shoulder use. The good thing it’s easy to take off the grips and move the power dock.

I’m having issues with using the DP4 EVF and a follow focus at the same time. Just not enough room for both. I’m liking the DP6 in front. When you tilt up and down I get a better viewing angle. It does make it more front heavy so I have to put the power dock farther back to balance it better. If I was shooting outside in bright conditions the follow focus will have to go and I would put the EVF on. I like this setup. The Tilta has been the best baseplate I have tried so far.

Thanks for the pics Erik! So would you say that it's easier to use the DP6 vs the DP4 when shooting hand held? I already own the DP6. I'm wondering if I should pick up the DP4 now that its on sale during NAB. Thoughts?

I can’t fit it (the DP4 EVF) with the follow focus on. Not enough space for both so if i’m going to use the DP4 EVF then no follow focus.

Shooting outside in the sun could be an issue with the DP6 handheld.

I would get the DP4 if it was on sale.

That looks great. Erik, which Sachtler are you using, and how does it do with that rig? is it the dv-10?

Its a old Video 18 head with two stage carbon fiber legs and a mid spreader. I kinda like my Miller better.

I'm going to the factory headquarters in Shenzhen to try and put together a rig for my camera set up on Saturday. If there is any questions or anything you'd like me to ask I'd be happy to relay them.

nothing specific really! i just ordered the rig! hope it will work better then edelkrone (that was a big disappointment). tilta told me that they will start selling F3 19mm rig next month...... but i think it going to be too heavy for me, the only thing is that i like the top base plate (the plate u attach the camcorder too) much more, then the currant model has but.....

also little bobby told that he was able to fit the manfrotto plate instead of the original tilta plate, - just wonder what Model fits there (was it 577 or a different one)?

I was surprised that Tilta wasn’t at NAB this year. I looked them up when I was their but didn’t find them. I read a presser form Genus that they partnered with Tilta so I’m not sure if Tilta is still independent or partnering. Anyway I like my baseplate and hope they are still in the game.

Orlando could you find out?

So I met with the Tilta people today in Shenzhen. They are really nice, and super smart. They really have a good operation going. They didn't go to NAB this year because they weren't quite finished with the rigs they are working on for the f3 and the scarlet/epic. Their dovetail baseplate combo looks particularly well made. They told me they will have both of them done in two weeks, which will mean that you can buy all of the other parts on the website such as the 19mm components and the carbon fiber 4x5.6 matte box. I guess they are partnered with Swintronix, but it doesn't seem like their stuff is all that present or available in the US.

I got a full support rig and v mount battery plate power supply system. I'd like to grab the new matte box in a couple of weeks when it comes out, it's really light and nice looking.

I have just received my new TILTA shoulder support rig! I so much surprised about - HOW GREAT its is! Super wonderful peace of equipment, but also i am surprised about how LIGHT it is, its much much lighter then RedRock, and like 3 times lighter then my Edelkrone modula 7. I dont know why in a hell i messed with edelkrone at all, payed like 3 times as much as for my Tilta (tilta is so cheap and so great), and now i ll need to find some one who will buy edelkrone.... now i know for sure - more expansive not always means better, - edelkrone is very Bulky heavy and Uncomfortable to use.... Tilta from other side is so wonderful!

But also Tilta is so compact like nothing i used before! its easy to care it! I got Base plate (includes front and back rods) and Handles, but also i decided to buy an extra articulating arm / noga arm with clamp , so i payed for everything together with the DHL shipping 671 usd and i find it very cheap! i had to spend extra 100$ on V mount tripod plate.

most important - i was worried when bought it about the handles issue, but i was told by Huang that they knew about it and fixed it, and its 100% true - no issues ! few extra words about the articulating arm - WOW, just WOW, its a pro peace and it looks and acts like it and all that for just 60$ unbelievable!!
