Both cameras Look good to me. I will be a getting a AF for sure but I'm letting my 7D go. Seems to me they can be intercut without general audiences seeing any difference at all.

5 years ago I never thought we'd be here. Times are indeed changing.

That's not fresh out-the-camera footage, though - it's taken a quality hit somewhere.
I can't wait to see what comes out of the AF100 before any second round of compression.
 
I am so glad I sold my 7d on Ebay...phew! Boys, start getting rid of your DSLR's before they loose 50% of their value...all I see now is other manufacturers stepping up to the plate....

you can clearly see that the AF-100 vs the 5D mark II that the AF-100 is the clear winner...you must download the 1080p file to see it!

Oh I do know...but let's be honest... prior to DSLR's shooting video, how many of us even considered buying one?...not me for one...it was just not our tool. Now look at how it has populated our industry...everywhere you look, it has taken hold of the prosumer industry.

At NAB 2010 it was comical to see how empty Canon Broadcast's Booth looked compared to the little side booth where all the Canon DSLR's where. It was standing room only. Speaks volumes....
 
question is, is the af100 THREE times better than the 5dmkii commensurate to its 3 times higher price? the video doesn't seem to say so. seems only very marginally better to me.
 
I'm curious how the AF-100 3 times the price?

I can only use my market prices here in Montreal:

Canon 5DmarkII - Best price I heard of locally was $2400 CDN for the body (It's about $2650 at most photo stores).
Panasonic AF-100 - $4800.

Hmmm... that's exactly double, for a video-specific feature-set that isn't even comparable. We are, and have been for the last little while, comparing apples to Orangutans.

sorry you're right it's closer to double. so change my question to, is AF100 double the quality of 5dmkii? I guess that has yet to be seen. I'm waiting on tomorrow's big day with philip bloom's exposé
 
Oh please, I'm not even sure that RED is double the quality of 5dmkii. What is "quality" and how do you quantify it in such a mathematical standard? "WOW! I can tell by looking at it that this camera exhibits 38.7% quality improvement over the 5DMKII!"

...let's not forget the other features the AF100 has. Built in ND filters, EVF, XLR, etc. Add all the necessary accessories to your 5D and you'll be close to $4k. So really, the question is is the AF100 worth a few extra hundred dollars? From what I've seen, I would say yes.

everyone knows that the Red is 3 and a half times the quality of the 5dmkii. I guess you don't know much about cameras

good point..the quality itself isn't necessarily double that of 5dmkii, it's all the extra added features 5dmkii doesn't have.

I completely understand what you're saying...

...but it's not really fair to expect that the footage will look TWICE as good as a 5D. That value of the image quality is relative. The image isn't going to look TWICE as good to the average viewer, but we are already noticing improvements in moire, jello, etc. So, you have to figure how much that is worth to YOU.

And outside of image quality, we are getting value out of the form factor, VF, LCD, on-board audio...yada yada yada...will I pay twice as much as a 5D for ALL of that?

Yes.
