In that same shot starting at 1min 17sec can you see how the whites clip and there's this bluish tint on the hood? This is perhaps the key element to me that kinda makes me feel not so pleased about all the images I've seen so far. Is there a name for when that happens?
I guess it's highlight rolloff? This should be somewhat user adjustable in the camera though?

Wow, don't know how I missed that grate. The stripes were more subtle.

Yes that's possible.
Compression doesn't cause aliasing. Something in post could have caused it though.
I'm pretty sure that it was just a very, very, very small amount of aliasing on something that was too far away and too finely detailed for the sensor. The way the stripes on the hood started off small in the distance and the aliasing disappeared as they grew larger as the car approached the camera, they almost seemed to function like lines on a resolution chart.
For all I know we would see the same on any video camera.

I would think so as well. Video cameras do alias - in fact film grain can alias as well for that matter - but nowhere near the amount as do dSLRs

You can see aliasing every day on TV if you're looking for it, even when watching movies shot on 35mm. Judging the video, I think AF100 handles this issue very well without visually softening the image, no aliasing jumped to my eye like it heavily did with some 5D shots.
Only drawback I can see so far will be to get good looking wide angle shots in small spaces, even with APS-C crop factor I feel it's tough. Other than that, I really feel an almost perfect indie camera has been born.

This, I think, may be confusing aliasing which occurs due to poor acquisition and aliasing which occurs because of downscaling.
AF-100 does make some pleasing images, with vastly improved aliasing over the DSLRs - which, really, is to be expected!

Downloading, can't wait to watch the original file. What's more, I can't wait till I can grab one of these guys and have it alongside my 7D! All the bashing of one or the other (that's bound to happen by loyalists) is silly to me. The 7D will take great behind the scenes footage for shoots, as well as be a great B camera, as well as take stills for publicity stuff (posters and such) that I'd have to outsource to someone else, otherwise. Knock on the DSLRs all you want, but I'm thankful for my 7D. I've become very familiar with the still camera because of it, and feel confident in snapping sweet pics for my films, now! 
AFTER WATCHING CLIP: Hmm. I haven't seen near that bad of aliasing with my 7D. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've done some wide angles on vehicles in one of my short films and don't recall that level of aliasing.

I had that thought too. I've never seen a 5D alias as overtly as that - even with the default sharpness setting.
Then I started to see it (in very very tiny amounts) in all AF100 footage (like the highlights of the rim at the very end). I can't help but wonder if something else didn't happen somewhere between the footage and what we've seen in the case of both cameras.
Wouldn't that depend on what lens they were using on the 5D? Some lenses are much worse for aliasing than others if they're too sharp.

Didn't think about that. The photographer I work with uses two Canon L zooms primarily. So my experience (and above comment) should pretty much be disregarded as noise.

for those that can't figure it out. you have to have a vImeo account and be logged into your account in order to download otherwise it won't let you download
