GH2 about to finish shooting my feature :)

Hey roei z, thanks for the upload, it's much appreciated. I think you really did manage to get a film look here - very impressive. I'm amazed so few lenses were used, I don't feel any lack at all - of course, that's not seeing the whole movie, but at least so far in the clip, I don't feel any limitation. Also, I cannot believe you didn't grade this... you say it's raw footage, and I trust you, but it's great... this shows the quite wide latitude you can get out of the GH2 and the 2.8 and 1.4.

Really, if anyone has any doubts about this camera, I think you've put it to rest.

Now, when do we get to see the whole thing? Are you thinking festivals? Have you already planned out what you're doing wrt. distribution? I realize you still have a long road (postproduction!), but this is fantastic - looks like you have a strong product.

Does look really nice. The exteriors especially look really creamy and dreamy. The old man has such a face of character. The music is really great too. Be proud of what you are doing and thanks so much for sharing. I'm engaging on my 2nd feature next year and I know I'll be shooting some of it, if not all of it with the GH2. I do really like the look of those FD lenses...

Would you say that they have less contrast than the new lumix or new SLR lenses? Can you also explain your favorite filter, that con filter or whatever it is.. What it does and why you like it...

I've noticed that some of the new lenses I use do have too much contrast and I"m appreciating some of the old Pentax lenses that I'm using for just that reason....

thank you all for watching and replying. i do feel i got good results for this crazy commando production. the GH2 has made it's worth.
i still need to finish syncing all footage and audio and then i'll start confronting the 'real' editing.

i swear again: NO grading :) that was the whole point showing raw footage.
and about my plans from now on-
i really have no idea. i have no producer and i'm all by myself so i asked a few industry people here.
the next logical step (with 0 budget left) is to edit a rough-cut and show it around to producers.
after closing a deal with one, i hope i'll get the money for finishing editing, trailer, internet stuff, and complete post work. and let's not forget composing some kind of soundtrack :)
only then i'll think of festivals.

yup, it's a creepy movie, a bit heavy but with enough weird funny characters to spice it up. my goal is achieving a kind of Hitchcock/Lynch feeling.

my only real concern was the 8-bit codec limitation (color banding+break-up). but those problems could be solved with smart post work (film grain etc..)
my handheld shooting did also get me in some trouble, but i tested a very good stabilizer in Avid, so with a tiny bit of zoom-in this can be easily solved too.
i am saying: definitely go for the FD (or similar) look. i tested some new lenses and it's just doesn't 'film' well with GH2. sharpness and contrast ruin it. if you ask me it's a must.
that's the filter: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/60565-REG/Tiffen_105CUC18_105C_Coarse_Thread_Ultra.html (i got a 72mm thread)
there's a thread with some testing i did where you can really see the filter effect: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...8-quick-test/page2&highlight=tiffen+ultra+con

it's interesting to read your comments. thanks again.

there is no doubt that is some of the best looking color i have seen on forums films well made as well.

still, the 20mm FD is pricier and harder to find as it is.
Looked for it for a while..
I found a good one at 200-300$
It turned out to be my main lens.
the 50mm was for close ups and extra shallow DOF..

I had a 20mm which I originally bought for $60. I later sold it for $260. Didn't want to, but it helped finance the purchase of a LOMO 35mm cine lens. Wish I still had the 20mm, but the partial swap was worth it.

What you need is an Israeli equivalent of http://www.kickstarter.com/. I've contributed to quite a few projects that have become fully funded, and then some. And of course, from the little footage I've seen the festival circuit is a must, although that isn't a cheap proposition either.

To paraphrase a famous baseball movie, "if the content is there, people will come".

All the best and hang in there.

I think that once I'll come up with some kind of an effective roughcut,
Finding a good producer here will be achievable..
and a good producer will deal with the final fundings and festivals.
So it's still up to me at the moment :)

Thanks, stoneinapond, for the encouragement.

Thanks.. Well, those are the better shots ;)
And I still hope it will all add up to a whole
Effective story..

So was I the only who downloaded the full Rez file??? I'll not comment on things that looked "soft" to me, since you've states that was a aesthetic choice. However even the the car shots seemed under exposed and soft.

Dont worry I find Kaminski "soft" as well. But it will be good to see how you finish this odd.

It may be going off track from Roeizs work but with vimeo i only get 720P and you tube 1080P,connecting to my main 50" tv via HDMI all my films look noticeably sharper from you tube than vimeo, odd post before.
