A7s sample footage

In one of the clips there were two satellites flying against each other, I thought they might crash. If that didn't put you on the edge of your seat, I don't know what will!!

Wait did i miss something?! I just scrubbed through the video.

Enough with the high ISO tests! Pan these cameras back and forth for chrissakes! From what I can on the handheld footage, not that much micro jitters but the shots tend to be on wide lenses.

These don't feel right. Blues seem to go overly magenta and skin too yellow/green. I guess the Alexa profile doesn't mesh well with the source a7s video.

It's not right at all but I wanted a quick & dirty grade to see how the 8bit S-log holds up and so far I'm pretty impressed.

Did you see the battery drain? I know he cut the footage but it still suggested that battery life will be short. And of course if you are workng with a Slog2 base of 3200 you will probably run into IR pollution outdoors with normal ND filters. Other than that it seems as if the camera is an amazing value. Shocked to hear him say it could be used as an A camera. Seems like it can.

I don't get it, what's the point of S-log2 3200 ISO limit? The whole point of using S-log is to get the most dynamic range out of the camera and the the dynamic range maxes out at 100 ISO.

I cancelled my pre-order, I'll wait to buy a used Sony a7S on eBay a little cheaper...I'll get by fine with my 5DMk3 for the time being.

I know I shouldn't have bought into the hype. Just can't justify the Sony a7S retail price tag considering:
  • Under-delivered on dynamic range promises
  • S-Log2 only at ISO 3200 or higher
  • Spend another $2k for the Shogun which won't be out for months
  • Lack of 10bit output

The HDMI output isn't RAW, right? It's still compressed to 100Mbps? Or am I wrong?

The 3200 s-log2 is odd...Den Lennie lists all of his s-log2 shots as 1600 in the "Arbroath Smokies" short...

And I wonder if Matt Allard's shots are being displayed in 720p...they seem very soft (Lennie's 1080p short above is basically c100 sharp). Perhaps he's suffering from diffraction from having to stop down so far at 3200.

It's possible there is a setting that is restricting access to lower ISO's for SLOG2. I've seen similar quirks in other cameras that have blocked certain settings based on dials or modes not being set properly.
