a6300 news

It looks to be even with the A7rII which is not a $1,000 camera. Thanks for the tests. Keep em' coming. I can live with the RS if 1080p can be made sharp in camera.

Just got around to testing mine only in UHD/24P.

This has to be the worst rolling shutter I have literally ever seen, ha. Worse than those 720P consumer HD cameras that were coming out in 2007ish.

I am really going to go out on a limb here and say this camera is only useable (in this mode) on a pair of sticks. I haven't tested the other modes, but it's horrid in UHD/24P.

Another note...the temperature icon came on after about 25 minutes when plugged into the Assassin. I was set to UHD, but I wasn't even recording; just going through settings and checking everything out (as always, menus are pretty identical to A7RII/A7SII/RX100IV/RX10II, etc).

Something else: I can't get the display info (text, icons, etc) to go through the HDMI even though the setting is 'ON'.

Just an update to the above...apparently HDMI info does not go through to your external recorder when set to UHD.

Works in HD.

Yea, its definitely jello town. I was really into it from early on....but that jello is really just out of control. I have yet to see a video that it doesn't wiggle its flabby abs ;)

Thank you very much for the tests Macgregor. The higher detail settings do improve the 1080p a lot. Now if I can deal with the RS I might go forward with a purchase.

Macgregor, the blues in the 4k video are quite different on each camera. Is there one that is closer to reality? Also, does the a6300 have a decent amount of controls to alter the color if it is the one that is off? Thanks

Honestly, the official Slog2/Sgamut LUT in davinci is not my cup of tea, so do not judge colors too much for now. I think there are better color profiles and LUTs.

Thanks, no worries. Outside of S-log, do you have an opinion about the color accuracy of the a6300? Have you shot any with a normal profile?

Lets see if you guys can help me on this one.

With the sony alpha cameras the moment you format a card, the files structure gets reset. C0001.mp4 ... etc
Is there a way in these cameras to avoid having duplicate names on each card/camera? with long projects it's a mess.
And if there is nothing, do you know any free software for quickly renaming bulks of files?
thanks

I just found out the sony FS5 is the same way it seems. We got one at work and couldnt figure out how to rename clips like you can in the Sony FS7 so it looks like you can not.

Also not having enough cash to pre order sucks as I want to pick one up now that I have the money (Had to pay for trip to Atlanta for filmapalooza) but can't find any stores that have one. Had a shoot cancel on me this week so I have the weekend and would of loved to tested the camera out :\

From what i've seen, the ldc dims when you enter 120fps mode. Even before recording. When you enter 120fps mode, it dims right away.

(whoops, was meant to quote a question from earlier)

I can confirm the LCD doesn't dim when you press record in any of the modes.

(It dims when you switch to 120fps because the shutter goes up.)

I hate this issue! The only camera I've used that doesnt do this is the GH4. If you are a Mac person try this. Easy breezy.
