a6300 news

It looks like a lovely cam and value for money but with NAB just around the corner (1 month guys!!) I think it's worth waiting. We shall see what's coming

You re right...I guess Im overexcited like a kid waiting for a new toy...haha...but honestly I dont expect much more from the other companies, at least in that price range...but as you said...we ll see.

It makes no sense to compare A6300 vs. A7SII on a 1 v. 1 basis (their $2,000 price difference aside). It'd make more sense to compare it to A7RII in its s35 mode.

This is a $1,000 consumer camera. Whatever the NAB will bring, this is not likely to be its target.

Well, it is kind of silly that they give us sharper 4k on the a6300 than the A7sii, but 1080p is sloppy mush. How hard can it be in 2016 to get sharp 1080p?

Not hard at all...just shoot 4k...edit in 1080p (you can even crop and reframe to your liking) and deliver excellent quality 1080p footage...:-)
Dont mean to sound like a smart-ass...thats just how I intend to use the camera...

When it comes to AF I think you're 100% right, nothing competitive will come at this price point. But maybe 5D IV with dual pixel AF will come and if ML will still be possible it will be a killer even if it will be (a lot?) more expensive.

Has anyone done a comparison to the A6000 with regards to size, layout etc.? Wondering if the cage I recently bought for an A6000 might fit on the A6300 and whether the accessory builders will be able to "rename" old stock.

Cinema5D tested the camera.
They didn't like it.

They say rolling shutter is the worst ever seen, however they link to a couple videos and it does not seem at all like it's the case.
Pan shot with a car at 1:24 and sorry but that does not look bad at all.

Cinema 5D didn't seem to like the Samsung NX1 either, yet a lot of people did.

This only works for up to 30p. But people are mostly going to want to use 1080p for the slow motion, which is mushy. I know it has to do with the fact that the sensor readout area is larger than it is on the a7s/ii, so they cant supersample 20mp down to 1080p in real time so they have to line skip, but I just feel like theres gotta be a better way.

I didnt get the impression that they didnt like it, it seems like they actually did like it alot but it just has some limitations to be aware of.

Dangers of a non-concurrent product cycle in a rapidly chancing technological niche. I'll give you another example - Panasonic DVX 200 has a higher res (~ 2,100, aka real 4K, oversampled from 13 MPX) than C300 MKII (~ 1550, after the Debayering, from a native 4K sensor). And those two came out at about the same time and are ~ $12,000 apart in price.

BTW, with the new G-Master lenses, one would think there soon will be an upcoming pro camera with all the auto-focusing capabilities of A6300 and A7RII. It won't be in this weight class but $4,000-$8,000 range seems quite doable.

Well, i enjoy 4k but i shoot a lot of 60 and 120fps, which is 1080p. Which is supposedly mush? But is it really? Compared to other cameras at 1080p is the a6300 going to look like crap? Guess i'll just have to see. I'm only finding 4k examples, and hope to see more slo-mo from this camera soon.

Its just as soft up to 60p as the a6000. Softer at 120p. Its really mushy at 120p. Check out samples here. Good info.

The Camera Store guys have a nice review up. This camera seems to be 4k24 all the way. A bit disappointing the 1080p120 is soft. Jordan does not bring up an issue with 1080p60. I noticed quite a bit of wobble throughout the video which is a concern.

Well, not everyone at Cinema 5D didn't like it. Johnnie, who did the initial review, seemed to like it. The follow up tests didn't look so good on paper, but I wouldn't say the whole blog didn't like it.
