a6300 news

Great news on the lack of overheating in the smaller body, seems like Sony may finally have it sorted and it'll be a thing of the past.

A lot of complaints by stills only shooters about the price on DPreview and SAR when compared to the a6000, IMO it's shaping up to be a bargain at $1000.

is it normal for A series bodies to not track the eyes when the person is running towards you? See the 1st min of footage for a6300.

interested to know whether a7rii exhibits the same issue as well.

Looks to be a preproduction firmware issue. The boxes will follow the subject normally (though not the eyes specifically), but that doesn't happen on this video. Probably also why Sony doesn't want any images released yet. Guessing the final firmware should be ready before the final cameras are boxed up in a few days, or as a day one firmware update (hopefully not; this isn't a PlayStation...).

The rolling shutter will be an issue due to the full read of 20 MPX. So, one may have to see what the 1080p looks like.

The overheating in 4K, I suspect, is no longer a problem with the new processors.

PS. With the NAB on the horizon, Sony can really create a monster shock if it combined the best features of A6300 (oversampled 4K and the AF) into an FS5 type of a cam with the XAVC 480 and marketed it for about $5,000. That would produce a tsunami.

It seems like a bunch of guys are sitting in their Fountainbleu rooms, munching on their Sony per diem and waiting on the all-go signal.

There's definitely room below the FS5 since Sony abandoned the VG line before competent AF was achieved. It would be cool to see this in a video oriented body. But we've also been saying this about the A7s since its introduction almost two years ago.

The a7sII in an fs5 body, same RS (too much?) and price -- would be an absolute knockout imho. I've been watching the fine line Sony has used to differentiate their offerings sub FS7....a lot of great options on balance but I've still not bought. If the a7sII was 20mpx, instant buy (D5 will achieve all the lowlight I'd ever need). 12mpx is just too low. Might as well put it in an fs5 and make it a more proper video camera -- what 90% of a7s buyers are looking for.

^ Very nice... except for one thing: if you are IN FRONT of another person but the camera can see one eye of that person in the background, then it can't recognize your face anymore? That's unexpected...

Im not sure if its youtube compression...I hope it is. From the recent videos online I am seeing some extreme macro blocking. Its really bad actually...some very unusual distortions in the image. I am viewing them on an Apple 5K screen.

I'm really not sure I can live with that. I know its a 1000 camera....but what I am seeing is really bad. Definitely not good enough for me to consider a tool that could deliver a professional product. I want to love this little thing...would love some feedback.

I wonder if the Pix-E5 shooting direct to Prores would help this.

Have you downloaded the original footage from vimeo clips? Im sure it is youtube compression you are seeing. The Sony noise redution is always applied very strongly to their video in cam, so this doesnt help, but I doubt this is what you are seeing.

There seems to be some strong aliasing in numerous shots in this video. Actually some weird stuff going on with every tree, railing even the dog's hair. What is that? The handheld is jello too. Got the camera on order, but this particular video doesn't seem too promising. I wonder if it's the render or something, because other videos looked pretty good.

Edit: It's gone when i switch to 1080p viewing. In 4k, the dog's hair at :50 seconds looks strange. In 1080p, it's fine.

I'm not seeing any aliasing at all on my 4k monitor. I would expect if it was going to be an issue we'd see it in the powerlines too. Moire is almost non existent too. Very pleased so far, looking forward to testing it when it ships. I work near a parking garage with a brick facade that always shows any aliasing or moire when shot at an angle. Its a great torture test.
