Re: A new DVX model?

Terry, are you using someone else's credit cards or something?? Man, you're on a tear! ;D

I had an ACL briefly. Very nice camera, *extremely* compact -- put a 200' mag on there and it's not much bigger than an A-minima, especially if you put something like a Switar 10mm lens on it. The motors can burn out though -- you have to make sure you have the heavy-duty motor. Mine was the original light-duty motor, and when you use it with 400' mags the motor didn't have enough torque so it'd burn out.

Eventually the motors and mags were redesigned (I think the camera body stayed the same) to accomodate 400' loads, which are of course the most common load size on 16mm.

The ACL is very quiet, and the quick-change snap-in magazines are just heavenly. Threading/loading isn't too bad either, because you do most of the work in daylight -- you only need to put the pancake in the mag and feed the film through a slot in the mag in the changing bag, once you close up the feed side you can do the rest of the loading in daylight, just like with daylight spools.

An S-16 mod on an ACL, by a qualified tech, might be expensive. Before you rule it out though, contact Les Bosher at www.lesbosher.co.uk. That guy works miracles on cameras, and he does it more affordably than anyone I've ever seen. Tell him my name, see if he remembers (he did the modification on my Konvas) and maybe he'll hook you up with a deal. His site asks for 550 pounds for the conversion, which is about $1,000... all in all, not a bad price considering it includes a complete servicing of the camera movement and mag conversion if necessary. I think he offers a 20% discount to members of the Topica Eclair list (or at least he used to).

If you got the HD motor with variable speeds and crystal at 24, that's a pretty good score for $900!

Re: A new DVX model?

lol...™ No, I haven't assumed anyone's identity or credit line. Rather, I'm suffering in some ways so that I might profit in other ways. Sounds noble anyway...™

Actually, when all my "...™" royalties start coming in I'll probably step up to an SRII just 'cuz I can. ::)

Here's the word from the Eclair seller...™

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Description:

Up for auction is an Eclair ACL camera package(24fps), which includes 2 -200 ft mags, Nicad 12 volt battery with charger and an additional VIEWFINDER. Also included is an 12-120 Angenieux zoom lens. The lens mount appears to be the standard Eclair mount.  It has recently been looked over at Visual Products and is in good working order.  I haven't personally used this camera, but everything appears to be in good condition.  Please email me with any questions and I will try to answer them as best as I can.

On Jul-08-04 at 09:19:39 PDT, seller added the following information:

This camera can be easily upgraded to Super 16 at a number of camera shops.  Also the motor can be *upgraded* to provide variable 12-48 fps.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Yeah, $1,000 for a Super 16 makeover and complete service is a good deal in my book.

Eclairs are mighty tasty...™
;)
Rafcamera is Rafael Pankratu, he's been selling Konvases for quite a while on ebay, he's a really nice guy and a reliable seller.  $1700 sounds like a lot though for a 2M, I think they go on ebay for around $1000 or so.

The Konvases are very, very, very nice cameras for the money.  Very, very, very loud though! :)
Ok, but the guy is also selling a Kinor package for less than 7000 with the negative mod! Man, I wish I were a little richer... Is that a nice deal or what? But I'm serious considering saving up for a Kinor and doing some music videos/commercials in 35mm in a near future... Man, I got to find someone who has one of those over here... 8)

Re: A new DVX model?

Thanks for the Les Bosher link. I'm all over that site. I've already fired off an e-mail dropping your name and inquiring as to cost, etc.  :)

I still can't believe I've picked up such a sweet camera for only a few hundred more than I paid for one of my tricked-out, mint 4008s.  ;D ;D ;D
