7D 7D, 5D vs. new SONY NEX VG1O ??

adding to the point in Ben_B's graph up there, there's an optimal screen size for each viewing distance, or at least each person has one

given my taste and my vision, 1080p is just about enough: in my living room, I have 3.3m (11 feet) from my eyes to the screen, and I think something in the 80" to 100" would be optimal: anything smaller (including my current 52" TV) looks more like TV than like cinema, anything bigger would be too big

given that, Ben_B's graph says I'd want something between 1080p and 1440p, but I think 1080p would be enough; if it is real 1080p, that is...

I'll try to devise a test to see at what distance my eyes are able to identify a single pixel in a 1080p display of a given size, something like an animated gif that fills an 1080p screen with a solid color, except for a single pixel that is somewhat different; with the background color, the position of the rogue pixel, and its color, changing every few seconds, it should be a good test: I want to be at the closest distance at which I don't see the individual pixel; if at that distance my 1080p display seems big enough, then 1080p is good enough for me; if it seems too small, I need a bigger display with higher resolution (so that the size of the individual pixels doesn't change)

my guess is that 1080p will seem enough, but maybe Ben_B's graph is right and I need a bit more resolution

You just have to wait for it to come out...

and pay quite a bit more

if this camera delivers a nice image, without aliasing/moire issues, I can see some people getting the european version and recording from the HDMI out with a ki-pro, and jumping through as many hoops as they find, in order to get the best image possible; I won't: that ki-pro thing is too expensive

then, when the three-times-more-expensive pro model, with proper 24p and XLR inputs, lots of pros will want one, even if other brands have similar offerings

I won't: the price is too high for me, I can't justify an additional $5K over a t2i or a 60D to get something marginally better; but for most pros that will look like peanuts

Well then I hate to say it but this market is not for you then. It's not really an argument as it is, what you can afford... Sure I'd love to buy an Arri Alexa with beautiful imager, and all the bells and whistles but I can't afford that. But I'm not going to polish dirt either.

There's no point in everyone jumping in and taking a 2k camera and adding 6k worth of stuff on the back end... then just wait and buy the 8k pro version.

If you can't wait then thats the price you pay. These are very different tools that are being compared, you're taking a handycam vs. DSLR camera... this isn't apples to apples and you're not going to get a clear answer from anyone about anything.

I'm kinda tired of reading these comparisons of things that just cannot be compared properly. Pretty much the only thing you guys seem to be able to compare is depth of field. If thats the case then just go buy a HV20 and a Letus adapter and call it a day... You'd get progressive, with interchangeable lenses and 1080p resolution.

DSLR's are still a brand new thing, along with 4/3 sensor cameras and all the other new tech out there. Spend more time worrying on how to light your subjects, and move the camera well, instead of all these other things that don't make a good video/movie.

who knows what will be used next to make movies... I believe HD CELLPHONE video will be something in the next few years, heck my iPhone 4 has lovely image quality, if I rigged a letus adapter to that thing some how, im sure I could get some lovely images from it as well... but it doesn't mean it should be done.

Bottom line is: you get what you pay for.
