75Mbps GH1 Peak Performance Patch

I got left behind in all the hacking progress. Bought a GH1 body this week for £350.
With this patch I am able to play it back in the camera! Should i be able to do that?

I'd recommend trying the patch as delivered before experimenting with modifications.

I'm trying to avoid having to unwrap the pulldown with Cineform. It's another step in the process, and expensive. Is Cineform the only good way of removing the pulldown? I'm using Avid Media Composer and Adobe After Effects, do you happen to know if either can remove the pulldown?

After Effects CS5 is excellent for removing pulldown (in its Interpret Footage dialog). After Effects CS4 did not handle pulldown very well.

Cineform (neoscene) = $129

After Effects CS5 = $1593 (UK price converted)

Yikes.

Apparently there is a free method:

but I can't say that means anything at all to me.

LOL, you clever and experienced people have no idea how bewildering it is for newbies to this dv activity (especially old newbies). It's like being on the outside of a secret society that speaks a secret code. One would like to Win The Future but much of the time one is left with WTF.:cheesy:

It is very cryptic and will demand a lot of time to get used to. Try and find the time and make a balance where shooting video is more of your time.

Lpowell - would you say After Effects is better or higher PQ that Cineform? Also, soen't Premere CS5 have Interperet Footage as well?

Sunny day, dense foliage, carved stonework, tracking along both, ripples on sea loch - all good. Many thanks for the excellent work, lpowell.

(transcend 16gb class 10, PAL 1080p 25fps)
What were you high/low bitrates on that footy?

Yes, as with After Effects CS5, Premiere CS5 can also handle pulldown in its Interpret Footage dialog.

To my eyes, both AE CS5 and Cineform appear to correctly handle pulldown on GH1 videos. In terms of image quality, I prefer CS5's ability to work directly with native AVCHD files. However, Cineform is very good, especially when exporting a CS5 project to Final Cut Pro.

Makes sense, thank you LPowell. I've actually settled on your 40Mbps AVCHD High Reliability patch, as it looks as good to my eyes as your Fast Action patch and has been absolutely rock solid reliable.

The reason the Peak Performance Patch is not really suitable for the GF1 or G2 is because their 720p SH mode can only record AVCHD-Lite videos. Since these cameras cannot scan the image sensor faster than 30fps, the 720p50/60 mode in this patch does not produce optimal results. For GF1 and G2 cameras, I'd recommend my Fast Action 3-Frame GOP Patch:

so I tested some 1080 and told it to interpret at progressive. Is that I need to do? I seemed to see some interlacing issues in the preview windows after doing so. So if I was to export this directly out I could choose 1080p 30fps nothing more needed?

Yikes.

The difference is, I already own After Effects. Although it is CS4. Has anyone tried removing pulldown in CS4? If so, what footage interpretation settings do you use?

so many wandering questions... please remember the name of this thread guys and not deviate too far from the original topic.

yet to get a good shot of the 75Mbps GH1 Peak Performance Patch as i've needed the 40Mbps High Reliability Patch for sturdy shooting.

*note: this footage is color corrected, I can show you non color corrected footage, but wasn't really making this video for testing.

Went to Central Park during the blizzard and did some shooting yesterday with the 75MBps Patch (as of 1/26/10)...it held up well. I thought it would fail at either 0:38 seconds or 0:58-1:03 but it held up well and caught my busy winter images. I was however disappointed at the end of the day when I got a shot of this beautiful cardinal bird but my camera froze up. I don't know if it was because the scene was too busy or if it was a combination of a battery probably on its last 15% and card on the verge of being full (but wasn't and could've saved the shot with some space to spare).I was able to start the camera back up and keep capturing footage, so I'm thinking for some reason the shot was too much for the GH13 to analyze (weird though because it was a shallow DOF shot, not much in the way of detail, except the bird).

Contemplating whether to go back to the amazingly reliable 40MBps patch, or stick with this robust Patch. I've never been able to catch such high MBPS footage (averaged 48 mbps) without this patch. Hats off to you lpowell!

I tried lpowell's exact settings and shot the grass lawn in my front yard and recording failed on a Transcend Class 10 32GB card. I'm going to stick with the High Reliability patch, unless there's something else I need to try with this one.

I noticed you posted this yesterday, but the on-screen caption says 2010, was this from last year?
