5D MKIII specs

Maybe the "rate" button does double duty: In Film mode - Frame rate change and in Stills mode - Burst rate change.

...just sayin.. :)

Sitting in a DI theater right now (18ft 2k projector) doing color work on a show with mixed media. HD Studio Cams, 5D, Epic, and GH2.

I've seen 5D on a large screen before, still the same result: many many issues to fix. Highlight roll off.. pfft..

re: increased pirce tag - I'm interested to see if the DR is now wider and low light might be even better, less noise at higher iso's

I've never been impressed with how the Canons handled highlight rolloff. I think the GH2 looks a lot more pleasing in that regard.

Yayy! Headphone jack! I know..I'm so amateur to want to confirm the plugged in mic is actually working properly ;)
Kholi,
Looking at the various cams as you are, which one needs the least fussing?

Least fussing mechanically?

C300

Least fussing image wise?

Epic

xD

High-bitrate intraframe recording on the full-frame sensor is going to be terrific. Shame that it looks doubtful we'll have clean HDMI for 4:2:2 recording, but people love the high-bitrate 4:2:0 out of the GH2 so much, I'm sure it'll still look great (if people capture their colours in camera).

It's a bloody exciting time to be making moving pictures!

I don't do much photography but I'm unsure how helpful the 'Rate' photo button would be? If you're taking so many pics that you need the button, then it would seem time consuming to spend time rating it on location. If not, why not just rate it in Lr or Ps where you can actually see the image clearly?

Really
good photographers don't need to review the shots to know when they've got a great photograph - it is not as though they are just snapping away and then scrolling through to find the best ones. They know the moment they hit the shutter button that they have a keeper. The only reason they check the LCD is to admire their handywork, as opposed to checking focus or exposure to make sure it was correct. This is something that goes back to the film days where people would only press the shutter button when they knew the shot was going to be a good one.

Also keep in mind that this camera is aimed towards photojournalists. If they are at an event or a sports match, they might shoot thousands of photos in a few hours, but they need to choose one to attach to a story within a few minutes of getting back to the office. This is where a 'rate' feature would help big time. They might use this tool to mark 10-15 photos during the day and then pick the best one from those once they get back to the office, rather than trawling through thousands of shots to find that one they know they nailed.

It's at the bottom of my must have features list.

An hour and 20 min to go......time to break out the popcorn
Only 15 minutes to go! Who's here beyond me, Anthony, Kholi and a few others? ;) Not you Jarred! : D Just kiddin' once EPIC will still be the ref with the HDR, frame rates and so on... And Scarlet, until Canon will launch 4K M-JEPG if not RAW as well ;)) Nikon is waiting for getting my money also on lenses though :-) Or not.

Only problem is we probably won't learn much today just like we still don't know much yet about the 1DX, D4, and D800. But at least the rumour mongering will be over. Let the pixel peeping begin!
