5D MKIII specs

PS

I see Peter like Rick before have addressed some similar response. Something to still add though.

It is too early to know yet how exactly Canon is handling the solution of the aliasing/moiré issues. Hardware is the most probable route. BTW, like Nikon has done with their D800:

Well, you are not that Sandro, but you speak like you could have ever shoot with any one of these cameras ;) We know too little as of now. No one gave a different explanation for moiré. What someone said was that both issues have been announced as addressed. And this is already something. Because, these have been the main problem pointed out by most part of 5DII users.

Definition is actually what «a cheap attempt to fool people» is. Only to have numbers on the table, when we deal with perception, it is plain misleading. Above all, external to us, more in the psychology realm. For some reason in the film school where I learned and in the curricula where I have lectured, psychology program included or not in other program of studies is mandatory if you want to conclude your education and training.

If it is possible someone to claim that dvxuser is a good plataform for it. Here, all of us look like to be at the same level. And this is far away to be true : )

A lot of people here think why got money for a GH2, they will be able to beat the 'inferior' 5DIII. The point is either of both are 'inferior' to the other one in some, if not in a lot of features. Period. FF is not even comparable to the crop format like your Rebel model. There's no camera winner, my dear fellow. Just different capture devices :-)

I can somehow barely agree with you when you say «they didn't want to invest resources to deliver a real 1080p video». But again, it is partially true. Why? Are we speaking about what Canon?! There are many Canons inside the company ;-)

I agree with what you're saying but I'm ONLY talking about the resolution the camera is able to store into the files it creates. Everything else is personal as you said. Even if we have "nothing" I just see it with my trained eyes ( ) that the GH2 is still the best one, I can't call it "perception" ... I really can't explain it, I just recognize it instantly when I see a "Canon look" video full of fake details.
Possibly Canon is retaining the video features for the next hybrid video DSLRs they're producing, the problem is : how much will that/those cost?!

Don't take it as a personal attack but answers like these is just history repeating itself. The same thing happened when Nikon released the D3100 and when Sony released the NEX-7, A77 etc... I said they were nothing special compared to the GH2. Again resolution only. I'm a pixel junkie :)

Makes me wonder if they are using a similar trick to that hardware fix for the mk2 moire issues. You can buy this plastic lens box thing that fits inside the body, over top of the sensor, which essentially fixes moire issues with the Mk2.

Sure not. How could I? :-)

I already got you are focused on the GH series. I have three units. Peter above there knows it quite well, once I called him when I ordered them in the US. And even today, I saw the prices for more two.

To each his own. As said, if you feel much comfortable with it, go with you like most. My point and many others is nothing is inferior to the other, just different ;)

And there's a difference between resolution and definition...

I bet it is more complicated than that. I guess Canon did a good job with this camera release. Even though, I agree with some other sentiment here that they could be further ;)

No, you cannot add any sort of diffusing layer inside the body because it would affect stills. This is not a defect in the sensor per birefringent layer, it's a problem post sensor in what you do with the pixels, how you reduce the data down and how you handle the conversion from bayer pattern data to RGB.

Again, this is ONE video. Maybe other videos come along and it's the same, but making claims as to what is and isn't of the 5Dm3 is pretty silly. How do you know the final code is running for the video? How do you know that there isn't some problem OR that this version is running older code? And, this isn't the high quality storage method. If the bit rate is so low, wouldn't you expect to see the damaging effects of H.264? Which hide detail and create the plastic look that people talk about.

Patience.

Lucky you! I can't afford to buy ALSO a GH2 that unfortunately is not that good on the pictures part :(
Do you have GH2 videos online?

James posted something that proves the accuracy of what I and you are trying to show in these pages:

Hey, if you like it buy it. I have not seen one video so far including the marketing videos being pushed that has wowed or remotely impressed me. It looks like regular old 5DII footage. Kudos to Canon if they've killed the moire issue. I have a feeling a lot of people will be holding off buying until something more revolutionary comes along. Hopefully NAB has some surprises in store. This evolutionary update is good and long overdue but not compelling enough for me.

Distinct needs for sure. I think to be free of aliasing and moiré is already a true bless.

I'm not sure if that is moire in the Canon shot, when I watched the video, it actually looks like colored noise with the gain set so much higher.
Same eventual conclusion. But definitely as norm the delivery artifacts are taken as coming from original footage.

they key in all of this is not the fact that it is on the 5D3, but that it is likely indicative of the whole line right down to the rebel

Right. So who didn't save for the new 5DIII can now start to address it down to the Rebel at least. No more excuse to not be picture maker these days ;-)

Ahh, didn't see the rest of that thread (as I am not interesting in that camera), but yeah, when you look into that small clip, the H.264 macro blocking is just REALLY bad. This is what I mean, of course low bit rate H.264 is going to look bad, I see all the same problems I always see with that low quality. Just pop a screen shot into photoshop and play with the curves, it's horrible.

Now, let's see this 90Mbps footage. THAT is what we all want to see. It's a huge mystery.

Here is another thing to consider, H.264 smooths out noise as well. You might find that the 90Mbps footage has more noise in it. I look at footage from the AF100 AVCHD and external with a Nanoflash and the Nanoflash has more noise AND detail to me. Huge difference? No, but it starts to show you what H.264 is doing to your footage.

And again, it could turn out that the footage looks crappy at 90Mbps because of the quality going into the compressor. I'm certainly not saying that the 5dm3 is great. What I see so far looks promising in some areas, concerned in others, but, there really isn't much to make decisions on.

Some MKIII stills samples http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM
I compared them to the MKII, the D3s, and the D4 at up to 25600 ISO. The MKIII beat them all! Canon have done great work in the high ISO department. The chroma noise from their previous generation sensors is gone. I really wasn't expecting the MKIII to be able to compete with the D3s and D4 in low light.

Indeed, interesting stuff:

ISO3200 5DIII vs. D4

ISO3200 5DIII vs. 5DII

Pity, D800 is not yet available.

wow, that's A LOT sharper on the 5D3!! even at ISO 100 - but then: look at the color checker: there's digital sharpening in the 5D3, none in the 5D2 - maybe what canon did is make oversharpening mandatory...
