5D MKIII specs

strikes me as funny, of all the new upcoming EF lenses, the one I'm most excited about is the rumored Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 II Aspherical

I wouldn't get too excited over the codec just yet, not until I see some MOV files for myself.

I actually really like the 5dii codec as is (not prefect but good), so if they're doubling the rate.... that works here! Anything but 24mbps AVCHD, seriously.

Add a few hundred for a new viewfinder

The big difference is interframe vs intraframe. The new ALL-I codec records individual frames so is less processor intensive for editing and won't have issues with mud on fast high detail pans etc. It is however less efficient at the same bit-rate.

91 Mbps for 1080 using ALL-I is good. What this mean is that if there is a ML hack eventually, the codec would allow GH2 style tweaking. Bummer about lack of clean HDMI. No info yet on bit or color depth? I guess we can assume 8bit 4.2.0 then...

Doesn't look much difference from mkii.

Let's see...US$3499 body.....I could buy 5 GH2's for that.

I still have the mkii for stills, but this announcement is dissapointing.

Not bad. Screen shot of the fast pan towards the end of the video.

5dmkIII - Whip Pan - Rolling Shutter by onesielaff, on Flickr

Haha, I tried to pause it there but could never get it. Definitely looked like better performance than the 5D and 7D without question (7D is faster than the 5D). That was a pretty fast move too. Look forward to measuring it. Want to see how it compares to the AF100/FS100 which are pretty good (but not perfect obviously). Nothing like the C300 which is AWESOME.

Actually either codec and rolling shutter looks like improved. DR, latitude, aliasing, moiré, even sharpness etc only future will tell. I'd call it a 5DII-B anyway :-)

Curious why they didn't add lowlight footage as their 1st sample when that's the game changer for Nikon.

Truthfully, an improvement in aliasing and RS and I'm in... I'm just saying, why film guys on bikes in Germany when there are SO FREAKING MANY genuinely interesting things to shoot out there!???

Keep in mind a majority of that video is shot 720/60.
That is definitely improved. Previous Canons other than 5DII's 1080p were decidedly bad. So finally the Canon's 720/60p camera? : ) I bet 1080p won't bring so many surprises as far as IQ concerns, but I can be wrong.
