50Mbps AVCHD Fast Action 3-Frame GOP Patch

Have to read more on 720p set up with rapid action patch. The patch works for me error free at 1080p setting but totally unreliable at 720p. Yesterday I was doing time lapse (video not pics) of a building with very slow moving clouds and very occiasional people movement. It froze at some point (showing the red recording dot so I didn't notice). I spent there 1.5 hrs and ended up with no file recorded :(. Later I did t-lapse of a quick flowing river in 1080p with no problem whatsoever. using Patriot LX class 10 card.

Sorry to hear the Fast Action 3-Frame GOP Patch failed for you with an extremely slow moving subject. In these conditions, it's possible the bitrate may have dropped so low that the recording shut off automatically. For long, unattended video takes, I'd recommend my Reliable In-Camera Playback Patch in the "H" mode (720p @ 24Mbps):

I tried the 50mbs with a transcend class 6 card and faild on high detail scene in my gf1, the 40mbs settings worked good with my cards so I mixed the stable 40mbs with the 3 gGOP settings of the 50mbs. That setting worked great on high detail with fast movement.
Thanks for the setting hope this works for those who are having trouble with the 50mbs.
andrés

If you want to experiment with using a 3-frame GOP in other AVCHD patches, be sure to use the Constant for 720p patch as well. This patch is essential for stabilizing short GOP recordings at high bitrate.

I should also mention that the Constant for 1080p patch is only required for FHD bitrates higher than the 40Mbps AVCHD bitrate of my Reliable In-Camera Playback Patch. Since 1080p modes do not use reduced GOP-lengths, it is not necessary to stabilize them in that way.

please, can you explain what " Constant for 1080p " is usefull for? wich metod can j use to modify this value (avchd Native FHD )

Constant for 1080p is a research patch that adjusts the stability of AVCHD 1080p recording. I used it to improve the reliability of FHD 50/60i recording at a maximum bitrate of 55Mbps. I was not able to use it to achieve reliable results with the Native 24/25p patch.

speed setting don´t change anymore

speed setting don´t change anymore

Hi, i was using my GH13 with the Fast action 3-frame and changed settings for speed priority and now my camera locked in this settings.

Aperture= 1.0, Speed= 30 and above, less than 30 nothing.

Other camera functions works fine.

discover the problem, maybe.

Well.., I think that the problem is the kit lens with the lastest firmware. It just locked on 1.0 aperture. There is no concern with hack or lpowell settings.

Just to inform, I update again with this 50mbps patch and it unlocked the aperture settings.. Strange.

If the lens is reporting f1.0 to the camera, I would send it back to Panasonic for servicing. I'd suspect it was a lens firmware malfunction.

Hi, thanks for replay. I think the problem in not the lens firmware, because I reloaded the hack and the camera is working again.

lpowell is referring to the fact that NO Panasonic lens offers 1.0 aperture. Are you sure the aperture was 1.0 and not 10

I have been using this patch since October 20th and am thrilled with the results. THANK YOU lpowell.
Would like to know if it is possible to modify AVCHD 1080p to a lower GOP with these settings

You're welcome! For reliability, this patch records AVCHD 1080p without using the Native 24p patch. The current version of PTool only allows 1080p GOP-length to be modified when using the Native 24p patch.

While early versions of PTool allowed AVCHD 1080p GOP-length to be modified without using the Native 24p patch, this feature has been disabled in the current version of PTool. I've asked Vitaliy to restore this capability to PTool and I'm hoping he will find time to update it in the near future.

Thank you for your concise and easy to understand explanation. Thanks also to Vitaliy for all his hard work. Hopefully he will have time to make the necessary updates to allow for this modification to be enabled.

My understanding is that Vitaliy is currently working on updating PTool to work correctly with the newly released G2 firmware. Hopefully, he will be able to include an update to enable modification of GOP-length in non-Native 24p FHD videos as well.

Mr. Powell *and others,
I can't thank you enough for your hard work on this nor can I imagine the amount of time and intellengence it must take. I am in the process of creating a looped video for playback at a trade show on a big screen TV (50"), The content will be mostly a talking head but some movement (slow dolly, people walking, slow pan).
I have my GH1 set to this patch(Fast action 3 frame) and all footage will pass thru Cineform before it hits the NLE (720/ 30 or 1080 deinterlaced in CF); based on your extensive testing should I use 1080/24/60i or 720/ 30? The 24 vs 30 look/debate really doesn't matter to me. Which would you select? WHY? I promise to understand this as an opinion only, I know there are lots of them, but yours happens to one I highly value.
Note: no slow-mo anticipated.
