4K will require hardware update

Dan,

I expect to get a 7Q to shoot S-Log HD 99% of the time. 2K RAW will be great if/when I have a project that requires it. 4K uncompressed though is not very useful to me. I'd very much rather have 4K compressed (either DNxHD or ProRes). I know you are still working things out with ProRes and right now there are no announcements for a DNxHD version of 4K. Do you think that is something you could add down the line?

Thanks.

+1!

the official spec says that "1920 x 1080i59.94.". "i" means "interlaced", not real 60fps.

looks like Blackmagic always like to stick with this "up to 30fps" spec :)

or if you know any way to record 60fps with BM's camera, please let me know and i definitely will go get them! :)

I never think about is it real or not :) ..as if I buy it, ( I'm not 100% sure yet if I do...but I want to try this camera :) ) I don't need any other speed and size from BMPC except 24fps 3840 x 2160 RAW ... for any other speed I have FS-700 :)

alright, if you don't care any spec except 3840x2160/24fps, there is no problem for you :)

i just wanna mentioned that because "BM's camera with 60fps recording" gonna be the one serious big deal to me and i bet there are bunch of people think that way.

anyway, FS700+4KBMPC is kinda win-win combination! here's +1 :)

since i've had a chance to play with FS700+S-Log2, i think that it's gonna be much, much easier to mix the footages from FS700 and any other RAW from BMCC, RED...of course it's far from perfect but S-Log2 does GREAT job for FS700 and it's totally manageable!

and i have to say this, 4KBMPC looks much more attractive after the announcement from Convergent Design :)... cheaper than 2xSSD!

i know it's high spec 960GB but hey, it's just a media!

Hmm. Why do some many people have this misconception. 60i is real 60fps. It's not progressive so the effective resolution per frame is about 1920x540 but that's still pretty usable.

WOW! in my country it's not the common way to use that half resolution "field" as one "frame" so...i'm surprised!

Yes CD's SSD's are too expensive, even if they are server or industrial grade or whatever that can sustain at least 500Mb/s write speeds, it's still a steal.

Less than Sony's AXSM cards though, but still a big margin generator !

Man, can't Blackmagic show up with an external recorder than can do 4K RAW but actually doesn't cost more than the actual the camera with medias ?

Sony's AXS card cost $1800 for one 512GB! Gee...here's the list Sony Japan gave me :

AXS memory card recording time
4K/24fps=60mins
4K/30fps=48mins
4K/60fps=24mins

for 2K recording, just calculate 4x, like 2K/24fps=240mins.

i'm just wondering what kind of decent SSD we need for 4KBMPC.

The Production Camera works with the same SSD's as the Cinema Camera !

The presumed CMosis sensor it has can do higher frame rates but BMD had to make some compromises and being able to use the same SSD's is one of them.

cool! thank you for the information!

i put another sample of FS700+S-Log2 stuff on my vimeo page:
https://vimeo.com/65874458

it's about 4GB file but you can download the original ProRes422HQ version. that highlight artifacts issue is still there but i think S-Log2 does nice job for them.

Cheers,

Thanks for the tests Freheit. I would love to see some internal AVCHD S-Log as well. Also, Cine 1 is much better in low light / low contrast than Cine 4, which IMO is best in daytime and high contrast situations.

Thanks for sharing Freheit! I won the drawing for the Odyssey 7 (which I am upgrading to the 7Q). I am excited to have so many new options out of this great camera!

Please share the love the first moment you get your hand on that baby EAumen. I know deep down our FS700 camera pack a 2K/4K sensor with kick ass slowmo. I just want to see why we should pay the extra $4000 to $5000 to have the either the sony external record or the Odyssey.
