4K Samsung NX 1 now available for pre-order

Or maybe they only had a single NX-1 preview model available.

As I recall, Jordan used to shoot everything on FS-700 in 1080p for a long time. Now, it's been replaced by GH-4 ... which, as I mentioned a few posts earlier, represents a convenient workhorse for the YouTube type videos. And that is the problem that Samsung is facing. Its newest product may be better on specs but not worth the investment (currently) by those who have a lot of either the MFT or Canon glass. Plus, people are still hoping that new models from the other vendors are coming out fairly soon.

Performance-wise, that botanical garden video I liked to yesterday looks superb.

And now people are trying to figure out how to match it as a B-roll cam to Red Epic (I think I like the NX-1 more!)

I'm not gonna lie, i was excited to see this review was shot with the GH4... but watching i thought it looked pretty bad compared to most videos shot the same way

I don't know if this was posted here yet but I just seen that the NX1 supports the new UHS-II SDXC cards that have an extra row of pins and up to 300MB/s speed.
The SD card slot in the NX1 can use SD/SDHC/SDXC cards and is compatible with UHS-I and UHS-II. Samsung included support for the latest UHS-II SD cards to deal with the large amount of data it can process. The UHS-II standard can provide up to 300MB/s maximum transfer speed. It is only the second digital camera to offer UHS-II support, the other camera being the Fujifilm X-T1.

Couple thoughts:

H265 is the dealbreaker for many people? It wasn't that long ago that every single DSLR clip you shot had to go through Streamclip or 5DtoRGB. Every one of mine still does - I'd rather work with prores from the start.

Speedbooster? WTF??? People won't accept a super-35 sensor without a speedbooster? Yeah, that really killed sales for the 7D. Why on earth is anyone even thinking speedbooster? I've never once heard that word come up in discussions of the T2i, 7000/7100, 60D, etc.

Lens availability - the NX1 can take a wide variety of great glass with adapters. I wouldn't use this for an event camera, but for "filmmaking" type projects, where I'm pulling focus anyway. I'm trying to get a loaner to really do a vintage glass & high-end Nikkor test with.

That said, on paper it looks like the NX with native glass could be pretty useful in AF mode. If Samsung nails the optics, and the image is great, I think we'll see a fair amount of stills guys considering a switch. Most still shooters aren't doing vanity fair covers - they're doing events, weddings, portraits or lower-level fashion and product, and they're doing it with 2 zooms and a prime.

People predicted the same results for Canon when they released the first EOS gear in a Nikon-saturated pro market. Look what happened there.

The sensor and hardware seems like it's using just a fraction of its power. Firmware updates would be nice, but letting the OS be open source and seeing what the market comes up with? The first camera maker to do this will find they become the hero for many markets and uses. When music video shooters, time lapse guys, astronomy nerds, slo mo shooters - all have specific "hacks" (or well designed custom OS) available? Then this camera becomes "the" camera for a lot of sub-sets of users.

I think this really describes this guy below -

because he says that this is wonderful, terrific, amazing and more!

(this looks like more of a photo review though)

This camera actually DOES run on an open-source OS: https://www.tizen.org/

Samsung just needs to allow or put the infrastructure in place to allow either apps or for people to hack their own modifications. Or perhaps someone will hack it on their own without Samsung's initiative.

thanks... growing up one of my best friends was Korean.... lol mainly I only remember the bad words and those that have to do with food...

Serious moire at 1:13, but maybe any camera would have had trouble with that speeding bridge rail on a sunny day?
Is that moire or just the sun changing its angle visavis the camera and the guard rail?

The camera did pretty well on those tractor tracks at a minute mark, considering how fast they were going.
