Kit lens, OIS and AFC on.

Stable settings for me at the moment ... using SanDisk Extreme III 30mb/s Edition ... :-) no crashes or freezes yet..

EDIT:

Now tested with new spinning version of test chart by PappasArts ... no problem at all!!
Still very good!

Thanks for putting this to the test, zigizigi. Did the camera save an MTS file when the recording failed? If so, I'd be very interested to analyze a copy of the original video file.

Freeze on record with these settings

Freeze on record with these settings

Just tried these settings and ran into some issues that I thought I'd report in.

First off, I've been following these threads for weeks now and finally did the hack for the first time today. I'm familiar with software testing and troubleshooting, so I tried to be as methodical as possible. I'm using a GH1 with stock 14-140 lens and a brand new 8GB SanDisk Extreme Class 10 card. Using Wined pTool v40d. For AVCHD settings I set camera to FHD. I also formatted the card after firmware update.

1st run: Used Stable 35Mbps MJPEG patch referenced in this thread along with 40Mbps AVCHD settings.
Results: MJPEG recorded with no issues, When record button pressed for AVCHD recording, camera freezes, had to remove battery. Tried multiple times with same results.

2nd run: Reloaded GH1__132, modified only AVCHD setting with 40Mbps settings. I'm thinking maybe too many mods, so simplify.
Results: Same thing, freeze after record button pushed.

3rd run: Restored to GH1__132, just making sure I'm doing the update correctly.
Results: Back to normal, everything works fine.

4th run: Used "C" settings as directed in pTool. No mods to MJPEG settings. Before posting to this thread, I wanted to make sure that the issue was related to the new settings and not something else.
Results: Camera recorded fine, no issues with freezing.

Conclusion: My camera doesn't like these settings or I'm missing something (which is most likely the case). I did not change anything on the Video Bitrate H or L or Limiting Bitrate. Is this part of the problem?

Thanks for your help. I'm very interested in using the reliable oriented settings and my plan is to use them on my gigs to report back with "real world" usage. When you're getting paid, shoots have to go well, so I want to help out with that aspect of the hack research.

Are you sure you have the most recent PTool? The version number hasn't changed but there have been many changes. I'd try downloading it again just to be sure.

I used the most recent version listed on the pTool Manual thread (ver 3.40d), which was updated last on 7/9/10. Anybody know of a newer version than that? It's a good suggestion, so let's isolate that first.

That's the right version, but I would redownload it from the thread anyways, just to make sure you have the most recent version. I know it has been updated since 7/9.

If you see a patch for "Limiting Bitrate" then you don't have the latest version of PTool.

Unfortunately, the last few updates to PTool have been marked with the same version number, and the best way to be sure you have the latest version of PTool is to download it again:

anyone know someone in NYC who I could pay to install the hack in my GH-1. I don't have a PC or the chops. Going on a trip and video quality is key. thanks

Ah, a case of revision control. I'll get the latest version and try it again. Is there a Wined version of the latest pTool available?

Here are two full-frame thumbnails from videos taken with the 40Mbps AVCHD High Reliability Patch. Beneath each thumbnail I've included a screenshot of the GH13 Stream Parser display of the running bitrate of the 8-second video it was exported from.

Tested blank white wall 7.52Mpbs
Tested red car hood 10.50Mbps

Canon FD 50mm f1.4 handheld FHD mode PAL Camera

Nothing's changed as far as low detail data rate is concerned, same result as the old C settings. :thumbdown

I was not right with the blank wall bit-rate .. but here is the right blank wall test: SEE HERE (full res)

- Blank wall bit-rate is 13,5Mbps for me

.. and here is another tripod test: SEE HERE (full res)

- Nothing special there but bit-rate is 32Mbps

I just bought a silicon power card and it failed most tests -worse results than my Panasonic class 6 cards

I redid my test today with SanDisk Extreme 16gb 30MB/s class 10

Fails after 5-10 seconds. The maximum I could record was 50 sec. While my today's attempt with Silicon Power Card was more successful: it recorded 23 min before it hit the 3.99Gb wall. Go figure.

[Settings]
Version increment=5
Prevent version compare=Checked
Third-party battery=Checked
All Interface Languages=Checked
PAL<->NTSC Menu=Checked
Video Bitrate FHD/SH=41000000
Overall Bitrate=43000000
Preset bitrate=180
Preset bitrate 2=180

What is left to blame? Using PAL hack on a native NTSC camera?

Just to check in, it was the version of pTool that was the problem. I downloaded the newer version, ran it through Wine and did the AVCHD and MJPEG modifications. Reloaded and the camera seems to record fine. So a good thing to know I suppose.
