25p ?

here in pal land i left 1080i behind long ago and the GH2 does not do 25P only 24P or 720P why have pana left this off the GH2.

Because they don't want people to be able to record lossless video out of HDMI without going through some trouble to remove the random pulldown. :) Either that, or they just don't think that people want 25p for some reason. Who knows?

There will be no difference, if you shoot 50i and import it in 25p project and export it in 25p. Try it.

GH1 had this (25p) function only after Hack.
Or you just have to wait till GH2 gets hacked (if possible anytime). :)

There is the difference of max 17Mbps vs Max 24Mbps, that is quite a difference in data rate. Only 24p has 24Mbps on GH2, 60/50i is 17Mbps

As rambooc1 said, there's a difference in bitrate. But also, vertical resolution is halved when you get 25p from real 50i. Not HD at all. Aliasing may be introduced as well. :(

Also, the GH1 records 25p pre hack, not 50i. It doesn't support 50i recording, it just tags the 25p stream as interlaced so that it's compatible with so called 'standards'. :) Panasonic could have done this with the GH2 to remain within the blu ray spec, but they didn't. Who knows why. I'd have bought a GH2 instead of a GH1 if it had 25p. I wonder how many sales they lost...

thanks for the responses, now i have my GH2 AND its complicated on first set up,i see it says format cards on the GH2 but i cant find out how.

Just do what they do with american films

Just do what they do with american films

I don't know why every one treats this as a problem, they show American films over here in the UK with out problem and people record films over in the UK in 24p all the time.

Set the shutter speed to either 1/25 or 1/50 or 1/100 and so on... to deal with the light refresh problems. and sort in post with a speed up of 1.046% and alter the audio pitch to fix the sound.

Job done until the hack comes around

Because it's a pain in the neck. Yes, you can work around it, but for christ's sake...

Press Menu/Set
Scroll down on left to Setup (spanner symbol)

Yes not quite that easy but i now know its the last one in the tools menu,my first impression is not great though how you can hand hold [not that i often do] without accidently pressing one of the buttons menu/display/wb/iso /fn4 and fn2 i would like to know.
on mine after pressing record the color slightly increases from the monitored color i dont know if this is normal but i have never experienced it before.

Agreed. I don't see it as a problem at all. You can just work with 24p and at the time it needs to be broadcast, just speed it up. They've been doing that with 24p material in PAL land forever (and not even bothering with the audio pitch). Agreed it would be nice if it came out as 25p in the first place, but It's not that big of a deal.

some initial testing i need feedback on this please, there seems more alising & moire than i expected,it manual focus auto seems to hunt for me fore some reason.
Excuse the neighbours noisy little hounds.

edit for some reason the file wont upload to either vimeo or youtube in HD i have never known it happen before, try later

Can someone please explain again how to solve this?
I also can't figure out why the picture changes when I push
Record.
What does it have to do with "my colors"?
And how does changing saturation solves this?
Isn't it also a contrast change?
Thanks.

Yes i am a bit confused regarding the crop factor, normal pana lenses have 2x crop but the lenses in the film had varied crop factors, i have some tamron [canon fit] zoom lenses what would the crop factor be on my GH2 with an adaptor.

Compared with a full-frame 35mm camera, ALL lenses will have the same 2X crop factor when used on a GH2. In other words, a 28mm lens on the GH2 will have the field of view equivalent to a 56mm lens used on a fullframe camera, a 50mm will have the FOV of a 100mm, and so on ...

I'm unsure why you thought crop factor somehow varied in the clip you linked to ...

Its just in the film at different places with various lenses the crop factor shown top left varied often below x1,thanks VM for the info.
