20% off Pluraleyes until 15th November

Does this plugin work for all double-system filmmaking or does it require that you have on-camera sound and just work by matching up the audio waves? I checked their website but there's not much in detailed info.

Thanks

It syncs by analyzing the audio, so all clips have to have an audio track.

Been banging on about just how bloody brilliant this software is for ages now and after much bugging, managed to convince Singular Software to do a limited 1 month discount of pluraleyes for readers of my blog. Get 20% off until Nov 15th

We used this on a shoot the other day. Audio was recorded to a sound devices mixer/recorder. We used Plural-Eyes to sync and it worked like a charm. very cool.

Don't know if I'm doing it wrong but it crashes every time I try to use it! (Click Sync that is)

same here. I wanted to test it out before I bought it but every time I click the sync button it crashes FCP and pluraleyes freezes making me force quit it.

all the clips I'm using are 29.97, 2 are hdv one is prores and are in a prores timeline. I'm not sure what the problem is.

Someone care to offer a suggestion?

multiclip only works if everything is same format...

I don't really care about multiclip, I'm just wanting it to line everything up for me. Does everything have to be in the same format for this to work as well or just the same frame rate?

I'd be happy if it got to the point where it gave me the "can't make multiclip" error message instead of crashing.

Anyone who is having problems with PluralEyes can get help quickly by going to our support page and sending us the information described there. An instant crash is highly unusual and is not the result of the particular formats used, etc.

Ok so I tried pluraleyes again, wanted to give it another go before the bloom20% ran out.

Last time, when it crashed, it was crashing when I tried to sync D90 footage w/Zoom h4 recorded wav files.

This time I tried syncing two PR422 converted 29.97 fps video files, and it worked, no crash.

However, the footage did look 1fps out to me when directly comparing the two videos.

I've posted another thread where I asked about mixing ex1 + 5d footage. The answer was to convert both to PR422, which I did. However, I didn't receive an answer on how best to handle the different frame rates - 5D footage being 30fps and Ex1 footage, recorded as 30p, being 29.97fps.

So, in lieu of an answer, I converted one XD cam video to PR as current fps - which was 29.97. I then converted the same song recorded w/the 5D to PR422 at 29.97fps (from 30).

As I said, both worked fine syncing, no crashing, although they are 1fps out of sync I feel.

I can move the file, of course, 1fps along. However I'm wondering if there's more to it than this - is the converting from 30 to 29.97fps 5D footage causing this 1fps drift or is plural eyes just 1fps off?

I'm prepared to converted ALL my footage to PR, w/all the 5D footage also going to 29.97fps, but I'm wondering if it will all be 1 frame out.

Luckily w/the 5D getting 25p soon and me not having multiple cameras - just two recording each song continuously, it won't cause major problems this time round. Naturally I'm wondering, though, if it is a PLeyes quirk, will this affect situations with multiple cameras/tracks.

The answer is simple.

You need to slow down your audio to 99.9% or speed up your video 100.1 %

Or you can make sure that you import the video in FCP easy setups at 30fps rather than the default setting of 29.97, which is a bug in this program.

This is a well know issue with FCP.

After that your pluraleyes output will be in perfect sync.

Aye, but in my case it's not the audio that is 1 frame out of sync, it's the video.

I have two video sources - Ex1 recorded at 30p aka 29.97fps & 5D recorded at 30fps.

I've converted both to PR422, however when converting the 5D footage selected the frame rate of 29.97 (instead of 30fps).

In the example you gave it was the audio that was the problem, whereas in my case it's video.

I would have thought when converting to 29.97 from 30fps it would drop 0.03 fps.

Does it instead just retime things, and in that case is the speeding it up step still needed? Or has it dropped the frames when converting?

Another thing I'm noticing is if I'm using magic lantern on the 5d, often the audio level will be v.quiet - essentially too quiet for pluraleyes to sync with. AFAIK PE sync's the waveforms, so if your audio is quite it will have a tiny waveform.

I know you can control the gain to a degree w/MagicLantern, but it suggests to me if you aren't planning on using your 5d audio, and just want it for sync, you are advised to leave AGC on unless you have time to tweak ML's settings. That way you should have a more usable waveform for syncing.
