Haha I'm about the same 6'2, that's why I love the top handle makes it so much easier. It's so rare but how good is filming people of your own height? haha
Haha, it is awesome!

Canon's 8bit HDMI is limited at circuit board level.
one would assume* that windowing down to s35 would allow for 60fps. i am surprised that ff35 got that instead.Yes, it wasn't meant as another "wish list item".
I would like to know if there's a restriction against S35 60fps though. I wouldn't think so, but who knows…

I thought the HDMI will give you 60fps, if you choose a filming mode setting in the 1DC that have 60fps. Is it not so?
as for the 8-bit, I guess is file size ( data writing speed of current CF card) that is limiting this . Since the current 8-bit config already require a writing speed what the 1DC is just barely able manage with it current hardware ( CPU for coding, data bus for transferring the data). I do not have spare capacity to output 2 different data stream to CF and HDMI for 8-bit and 10 bit. This is why the setting of the 1DC seems more flexible in the non 4K modes.
Similarly the current HDMI1.4? port can only manage 1080p 60fps or 120fps? data rate. I guess not until they offer a upgrade to HDMI2.0 or display port we will not have 4K output on the HDMI.

I guess I can understand that. Though honestly, I know little about that. I just assumed if they could get 24fps in 4k, that a windowed s35 could get somewhere of 60p, similar to a few other cameras hfr, namely Scarlet. And that is why I say I am generalizing without context.I believe it has something to do with the sampling algorithm, FF mode 60p is the softest of all modes, pretty much like upscaled 720p.
S35 looks a lot sharper (1000 TV lines+), so a better, more sophisticated sampling algo is used here. 60p with this algo would put a lot of pressure on sensor read out speed, which could result in unacceptable rolling shutter effect (S35 and 4K mode already has some bad rolling shutter similar to 5D2).
May be. I do think 10bit in HD s35 would be verrrry welcome though. With the data rates the MJPEG is pulling, I am sure the CF cards could handle it. Red started writing to CF cards a while back.I thought the HDMI will give you 60fps, if you choose a filming mode setting in the 1DC that have 60fps. Is it not so?

Jose' Alkon has done some with that. He has written his thoughts on it here in this thread.Hi guys,
Just got my 1 DC today. a quick question. I've seen on Vimeo that if you set the camera to 4k recording and then record from the HDMI to a ninja or samurai, you get a pin sharp 1080p. Much sharper than the internal 1080p recording. Has anyone tried it?

i definitely recommend the cineroid retina. Has all the functions and the resolution in a small lightweight package. perfect.Interesting....
Any of you guys are using a viewfinder or a loupe? what is you favourite? thx

Between him and James Miller, I would assume it is worth while. Though, "much sharper" than the 1080 s35 mode seems not accurate. But Jose' seems to think the gradients are better, which has me wanting to try start using an external.
I'd love to think "one stone two birds". Recording great images with an efficient codec on SSD and get a nice screen for focusing...

José,
Did you personally try it with the samurai blade?

"Discernibly" and "way" are very different to me. Do you have a side by side you've done? Well, heck, I may have to go get an external now. Is jello improved?Yes, way sharper than s35!
