Interesting comment Marvinhello. Does anyone find it difficult to work with the 4 frames of lag?

Overall, no big issue. Just have to get used to it. Focus is a muscle memory thing too. I find with motion blur at 24fps and handheld, finding focus is all about muscle memory. It depends on if you can adapt or not. The delay when walking and timing my steps to the person i am following is a bit of of an annoyance. Really have be in tune with your surroundings. You will get to use your ears and peripheral vision more. You will rely more on muscle memory with focus than reacting (though with a high res evf you get to double check and confirm you are in focus). The delay will annoy if you expect and demand instant feedback from the monitor. I can adapt(for better or worse), so it never bothered me, except for a few timing cues. But mainly because i was being lazy. We should have the ability to anticipate action and behavior, which i find important even without the lag.

The nice thing is if you really need instant feedback, you can use the lcd on the camera back. And when you upgrade to a camera with sdi, then the coneroid can follow and not have all the hdmi lag.

Hdmi lag is one issue. So, while easy enough to work around (just like power steering in your car), depending on everything else in the equation and the need to rely on monitor feedback, it can be the hair that breaks the camels back.

The lag on the 5D3 is pretty bad. It seemed to be worse than it was on the 1DC the last time I used it. People adapt.

I absolutely agree with you guys. it's about adapting. Nothing is ever perfect, just trying to get the best solution for my 1dc.

I think the lag on the back screen might depend on whether uncompressed out is selected in menu system. I don't know though. Every time I try testing by eye, my mind quickly adapts until I'm not entirely sure if I am seeing a lag anymore or not.

I really thought the 1DC would be outdated by now. I definitely hoped it would be, but to me it still beats out the GH4, A7s, and not surprisingly the D810. It holds its own with the F3, C300, and F55, but they are different cameras, so moot point.

Nothing beats the feel of holding a 1DC. Better than the C100 or F55. Super personal.

Was watching some of the A7s footy on the web, and in non-log color profiles, the 1DC looks better. Something about the skin when the exposure gets a bit hot. Plus the s35 crop mode is so detailed, maybe only the GH4 could match that.

Even though DR is within 12stops, you can go right up to the edge of exposure very naturally, without the atomic digital yellow taking over the highlights.

The 1DC is an extraordinary camera. It will be around for a long time.

I'm really glad I went for that camera... I think it's the most versatile camera on the market. I think people get excited about the GH4 because it's affordable, but it doesn't come close to the 1dc imho. I personally hope to keep it for years to come as my main camera... My only wish would be 10 or 12 bit ProRes recording... that would be fab

Here is the very detailed and technical 1DC test report done by European Broadcast Union:

Hey guys,

I got CVP to do a monitor line up for me. I was spoiled with 6 of them. In the end I went for the TVlogic 58w. Superb. 1920x1080. I mean this things is small, sharp light weight. I don't even know why they bother with the focus picking, the resolution is that good. I felt that the 7 inches monitor offered by marshall or smallHD were too big. Don't get me wrong they were also fantastic monitors, the small HD OLED is a light weight, solid, high resolution beauty, I just find it too big. The 1 DC is a small camera and I want to keep it as small as possible. I stayed away from proper efv as the gratical is due soon and I want to see how it will look.

I also got the manfrotto show mount for the monitor, just because they had nothing else.

Do you guys know of a shoe mount system with a very small foot print?

When it comes to light weight mounting options, i still haven't found what i'm looking for.

What a great thread for 1Dc users! Have read right through the posts and and found much useful info.. shame I'm a year late in finding it :(
Very interested to know if anyone has heard anything regarding future firmware development for the 1Dc. Canon seems to be lagging behind other camera manufactures in this regard. If only the 1Dc had a waveform monitor or at least a histogram that works during recording.

Word is that firmware development has stopped for the 1DC. The proof would seem to be that the 1DX currently has a more advanced firmware that was released 1 1/2 years ago.

Disappointing if that's true.. especially as Canon has gone to such lengths to prevent hacks.

I am using magic arm( just search in eBay), quite flexible.

can mount on the hot shoe or clamp it to whatever I like.
