C300: 1/48 vs 1/50

Point a bunch of cameras at old TVs or CRT monitors (etc) and you may see a variety of results.

I once used a 5D Mark IV, a6300 and G85 on one project, and they all handled those scrolling/scan lines differently at slightly different shutter speeds (not too far apart, but not exactly the same).

I get that these different cameras would produce different results as they have unique sensors and probably some what differing readout schemes for their sensors. I suppose i could do the test you suggest with a TV , set up a shot with my C300 MK2 and then switch between 172.8 degrees shutter and 1/60th shutter and see if there is a difference between those settings and any occurrence of phasing which would be a roll bar, black bar visible on the CRT screen. First I need to find a CRT tv...

I'm guessing any other way besides available environment testing would probably require some type of engineering hardware/equipment that connects to the camera and provides precise calculations.

So let me ask this, would this ASC person be willing to share how they determined that shutter speed was more accurate than shutter angle without revealing their name? I’d love to be able to test it myself if possible.

He might have covered it in his book. PM me for details.
