••Fujinon TV Lens on GH-1...Don't Drool••

Easy way to do is remove the mounting plate of the Fujinon lens and machine an adapter can fit a macro extension tube or modified 2x zoom converter. I don't have any Nikon lenses but collections of M42 mount lenses, for me it is easier to modify them. Here are some pictures show how I did it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/9423335@N02/sets/72157622556010112/

This looks great. Any chance you could give a brief explanation of the process you are going through in your flickr pics. I guess you are taking the c-mount apart, machining the m42 2x teleconverter to some how hold onto the lens, then im not sure what the other attachments are after that. Any help, advice, tips on doing this would be great.

Cheers

Acturly if you have a C mount you don't have to modify your lens at all, all you have to do is get an old Nikon teleconverter adapter (like one in the attachment), you'll need it to enlarge the image. And modify it by remove the front mounting plate (side that go to lens) and aperture linkage and machine a C mount plate and put back to the teleconverter where old plate was removed.
Now you have a C mount to Nikon teleconverter, rest is just puting them all together like this: Fujinon lens --> modified teleconverter --> Nikon macro extention tube --> Nikon to M4/3 adapter. It sounds complicated but it is not, all the adapters become part of the Fujinon lens once you ass'y them (except M4/3 adapter).
Like I said before I don't have any other lens but M42 mount, so all above just an ideal, may or may not work.

Brianwu... How's the performance with your Fujinon lens? I've heard that these lenses were optimized for 3CCD sensors and that the prism used to do this can cause issues with single sensors like used on the GH1. Regardless, I'd like to hear your opinion of how the lens is working out for you. Footage would be even cooler...

Just bought a 14-70 f2 Fujinon Panasonic TV-z lens c-mount. I'm still waiting on my c-mount adapter from hong kong. Hope the vignetting isn't too horrible, but with my luck, who knows. It may be for sale soon if I can't get it to work right. Not really ready to machine anything. I may just stick to my nikons.... I'll post pics later if I can get it to work.

What length of the extension tube are you using?

I'm trying to just hold my Fujinon lens against the 2x teleconverter and I only have a short extension tube (the E2) and I can only get focus at the front of the Fujinon lens.

The extension tube I used is 32mm in length; you do have to adjust the teleconverter to get distance right. I tried 28mm but it did not cover the whole sensor even with teleconverter adjusted. I have uploaded some more pictures and diagrams (Draw in ghetto style :lipsrseal ) to show how it is done. By the way my Fujinon is for a 1/2" CCD camera, so if your lens is in C mount, result may be different.

Performance of this MODed lens, to me is quiet good for shooting video. For my limited knowledge, those fujinon lenses appeal to me just like any other regular lens, beam splitting prism inside 3CCD camera play the major role, as mine MODed lens that teleconverter will have a bigger impact for the final image. I have make some test footage right after I pull all part together, I'll upload when I have time.

I just got my C-mount adapter and was all excited to use my Fujinon 12.5-75mm and I hit the same issues you did. Doesn't fit and even if you make it fit the image is only a small circle.

If you unscrew the black part you can thread polished metal piece in, but then there is nothing holding it to the rest of the lens. In any case, it still produces only the small circle image in the center. Not what I was expecting, but I guess the lesson is that there is a lot of variation in the results when using these C-mount lenses.

I've just bought a 17-102 1:2.0 with no name, just written "made in japan" (but it seems to be like a Computar lens) on it, and it works ! It fit on a normal c mount adapter, and the focus works to infinity, and the circle is not improtant. I've just made some video, it will be soon on my vimeo.com/sebfarges soon, if you are interested...

seb33 is the circle just in the range of 17-25mm or all the range from 17-102?

HERE IS THE VIDEO TEST :

http://vimeo.com/7616171

The circle is all the range.

At least I've found a fast zoom for my GH1, that open @ 1:2.0, twice faster than the stock zoom lens ! I tried before with a Fujinon zoom 1:1.2 but badfully it doesn't fit to C mount adapter, and it was vignetting too much and focus problems too... Now with this one it's OK, vigneting is not too much for me. There's no name on the zoom, but it seems to be a Computar.

Hi Super8,

Can you tell me the exact model number of the fujinon zoom lens? Is it a 2/3" chip lens?

Did you test a few TV zoom lenses before arriving at the decision to use this particular lens? I wonder if I can do the same mod with other TV zooms for 2/3" chip.

You mod is truly amazing. But 14-150 f1.4 becomes a 28-300mm f/2.8. I'm happy with f2.8, but starting at 28mm is a little too tight for me. I wonder if it is possible to use a wider TV zoom, or is it going to vignette too much?

thx a lot for sharing this with us, Super8.

Jack

The problem is that some of these types of lenses have rear elements that are too big to seat into the c-mount adapter appropriately.

What we really need is a c-mount->m4/3 adapter that has a bigger opening on it, so these larger lenses can nestle in the way they're supposed to.

Few question to OP or people that have succefully modded the lens.

Do you need specific distance between park to make them work?
I assume that the modified C-mount to Nikon mount need the mount at the correc tplace so the 2x converter work correctly? Am I right?

Also, do you really need the manual aperture 2x Teleconverter?
Does it need to be Nikon?

Couldn't we just fit the Teleconverter on a Nikon to m4/3 adapter?

Thanks in advance :)

I dont know if that applied to me, but i'm still wondering whats the distance needed between the lens and the converter should be.

I dont think modifing a cmount adapter it self could make a image circle bigger....

Alright, since ther eis some interest in doing this kind of mod, and since I wanna do it, I'll try to show you guy how I'm gonna work my way out with this.

I buyed this lens last week.
Fujinon TV-Z 7.5mm to 105, f 1.4.

The lens is damn mint, it already had the motor removed (it's on of the huge motor zoom thing for TV camera) so I think pthat pretty much all those retarded thing you see on ebay can have thier zoom removed, but don't take that for cash, I THINK you can pretty much remove them cause there are screw hole on NON movable part of the lens.

I took some sample and picture and I'll try to keep you guy updated with that.

I'm about to buy a nikon TC. Found some on KEH going for 50$...
Is the Nikon TC200 good or does anyone have anything to recommend..

what is the F of this lens?

Oh, now I found.

1.4 all the way... nice!

Hi,

is this the correct flow of mounts? even so, it's hit and miss?

using MD mount since that's what I have.

GH1 u4/3 -->(u4/3-MD)-->(MD 2x Tele)-->(MD to C-Mount)-->C Mount TV lens

thanks
