Didn't find the info I needed after a brief forum search, so will try here. I'm looking for a good external hard drive (200 GB range) for my Dell Dimension computer. I've got extra USB 2.0 ports available. Any thoughts on Maxtor or Western Digital? Any other recommendations?
Thanks,
Gary
I just got a new Storm case for my DVX and set up the foam a bit too tight around the rubber eye cup. Consequently, one side is now slightly folded in. Is there a way to restore the original shape to the rubber without damaging it? I now remove the eye cup when I put the camera into the case...
I used a series of nested sequences to create a 1.5 minute trailer for our retro sci-fi project in Pro 1.5. I now have one master sequence with everything in place and want to apply Magic Bullett Misfire Basic Scratches and Dust filters. When I apply to and render the master sequence, the...
I just started using Trapcode Shine in P Pro 1.5. A great plug-in with many cool possibilities. I checked out the Wrigley tutorials and a couple at Toolfarm. Can anyone recommend some other helpful tutorials for Shine?
Thanks,
Gary
I want to put together a short trailer for our film project and though it would look cool if individual letters (spelling out the title) appeared, in large scale, then zooming out followed by a dissolve to the next letter, etc. I'd like to fill the letters with video (a matte?) and have both...
I just purchased a Hardigg Storm case, model iM2400, which is very similar to the Pelican model 1520 hard case. It's got two foam pieces on bottom sectioned into small squares (pick and pluck?). The instructions say to mark out the perimeter of the camera with toothpicks and use the pattern as...
I'm workingn through the Total Training for Premiere Pro 1.5 DVD series and on it, Jacob Rosenberg demonstrated a technique for striping tapes with color bars as well as time code. By creating a project with a small section of color bars at the beginning, he sets the camera (connected to...
I realize this question is way off topic for the DVX forum in general, but I've gottn so much good advice here I thought I'd give it a try anyway. Applying Magic Bullet filters in Premiere Pro 1.5 really soaks up the RAM, so want to boost memory in my computer. I've seen several sources...
A friend of mine was filming some "behind the scenes" stuff while we used the DVX for shooting our film. He's not set up to burn DVD's so he gave me the footage on a CD in Mpeg format. Is there a way to capture from the CD and convert the clips to .avi files so I can use them in our Premiere...
Do I understand correctly that recording (with lens cap on) or "striping" a tape is the best way to set timecode? Since I would be recording onto the tape a second time when shooting MiniDV footage, is the image quality affected at all?
Thanks,
Gary
I bought the DVX Book/DVD set before I got my DVX100A, which came with a set as well. I'd like to sell it (unopened) but first want to make sure there is not a problem doing this, since the DVX Book is available through this web-site.
What sat Ye?

I'm "aging" my 24P movie clips in Premiere Pro 1.5, uisng the Black and White, Dust and Basic Scratches Magic Bullet plug-ins. I love the scratches but would prefer not to have them applied over the entire length of the clip, just here and there. Is it possible to use keyframes to control the...
This may actually be better placed in the Premiere section of the forum but thought I'd try here first; I shot the first two scenes for our film with my Sony TRV-39 camcorder. I discovered (all too late!) that the default audio setting for the TRV is 12 bit 32K, giving the dialogue that...
I just captured my first DVX footage in Premiere Pro 1.5 and was completely blown away by the great sound quality using an Azden SGM-1X shotgun mike. Which filters/ EQ settings in Adobe Audition might work well for enhancing the quality of the dialogue a bit more? Yeah, I'm a beginner, so the...
Greetings,
Are there any DVX users in the Sacramento/ Elk Grove California area? Am just getting started and would like to connect with other local film makers for info exchange.
Thanks,
Gary
I did some indoor test shots at 24P with my DVX100A using one 650 watt tungsten movie light, bounced off the ceiling, for the subject. There were closed venetian blinds in the background. When I captured and played it back on the TV set I use as a monitor, I noticed a weird flicker across the...
When setting the exposure on my DVX100A, I make two adjustments: iris (f-stop) and shutter speed. So long as the LCD/ viewfinder image looks good, is there any advantage or disadvantage between using a lower f-stop with a faster shutter speed or a higher f-stop with a slower shutter speed...
